This one is going to have to remain pretty sketchy. There's no time to finish it in grand fashion, this week, but I'll ink and re-post it later. The entire piece included a burning German fighter in the background, but my scanner decided it didn't like it. I think I have a picture of the preliminary pencils on Twitpic.

I don't have a whole lot of time here, so I just want to note that everyone's Rocketeers have been fantastic. If I get a chance to jump on the individual posts and say so, then I'll I do it, but time is at a premium right now.

Steve picked an awesome theme this week. I think any kid who grew up in the 90's thought that The Rocketeer was one of the coolest movies ever. I know I put myself in that category. Finding the great comic that inspired it later was fantastic.

Very on-the-nose piece from Declan Shalvey this week. I was originally thinking of doing something similar to Mr. Hawthorne, but then well, he did it, so i did something different. God; they should make a movie about that story, it's so riveting.

Anyhoo, it's a bit obvious, but i think it works.

Oh yeah, i did a Rocketeer a few months back that folk seemed to like. You can see it here.

THE ROCKETEER by Francesco Francavilla

This went a little out of hands, not a good thing when I have a pretty busy week on sequentials like this week (I have been drawing this in between pages since Monday), but my love for the character and respect for the great Dave Stevens took over.
When I heard about the topic for this week, last Friday, I had 3 ideas popping up in my head. I went with the "quickest" one, which was a remake of an old composition I did a few years ago and never got around finishing it. You can see the "starting" pencils here, along with my memories of the late Dave Stevens (I had the honor to meet him and chat with him years ago in SD with the good friend and super talented Jim Steranko - speaking of hanging out with the "cool kids").

I may tackle the other two ideas when I get some spare time.

As i'm sure everyone will do, and because he deserves it always, a huge thanks to the creator of the Rocketeer: Dave Stevens. It takes quite a powerful and imaginative mind to create a character in the 80's that everyone truly believes has been around for generations.

With that being said, another thanks to Steve Bryant for picking Mr. Secord. On my short lost of books to work on, the Rocketeer is top 5 at least.

I look forward to hearing what you all think and can't wait to see more from my fellow TWartists!

THE ROCKETEER by Steve Bryant

Aside from my own creations, the Rocketeer is one of my favorite characters to draw. So it probably came as no surprise to anyone who knows me that I'd choose good ol' Cliff Secord as my pick for Comic Twarting this week. My work certainly owes a considerable debt to Dave Stevens, and this piece is my own clumsy way of acknowledging that debt.

I'm humbled to be a part of this group, and excited to draw with these guys...
