Carnival of Carnage Recap

On Saturday, September 8th we hosted the "Carnival of Carnage" at the new Cloquet skatepark after a 13 year hiatus and it did not disappoint. Around 50 skaters came out to participate in the festivities and some really heavy skating went down. Relive the days' events through these photos by Matt Kako.

Carter took the top spot with moves like this down the stairs.
Garrett was ripping all day.
Cloquet native Jackson going up the a-frame rail.

Josh and Jonas throwing down some unique crowd pleasing tricks.

Matt Anderson took it home along with a Toy Machine Tech Deck. I heard he's got a finger board edit in the works... Thanks for all you've done to get this park built Matt!

Pocket Park Recap

That's a wrap.
Another year in the books at Duluth's finest, Pocket Park.
A heavy hitting contest with a close call finale in which Carter and Lloyd each had an additional 60 seconds to decide who would be the victor and who would have to wait yet another year for a crack at the jacket.
In the end, it was Carter who took home the jacket.
Results:
1st. Carter Nguyen
2nd. Lloyd Fisher
3rd. Tyrone Long
Noah McGovern held it down all day and took himself home a new tie.

A huge thanks to everyone who came to skate or just kick back and watch.
Shout out to the sponsors for hooking it up some killer prizes.

POCKET PARK SHOWDOWN 2017

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the POCKET PARK SHOWDOWN. We had a great turn out and a very diverse group of skaters. Watching the young guys gun it out for the tie was especially fun. After each run was done there was cheering and high fives all around. Everyone was genuinely stoked on each other's riding which is what skating is all about! Two solid run's from each skater in the "tie" division made it especially difficult for the judges to pick the top three. In the end Ian Gunelson took 3rd, Elton Skog got 2nd and our winner was Simon Walters!! Great work dudes!

This year's fight for the jacket featured a heavy list of local shredders. Joaquin Figureroa, Kyle Walczak and Carter Nguyen stood out to the judges though and took home the top spot.
3rd: Joaquin
2nd: Kyle
1st: Carter

Thanks to everyone who came out and added to the pages of the Pocket Park Showdown history book.

Carter took home the jacket AGAIN!
Simon won the tie for the first time!
Spectators look on as Eric begins his run.
The champions. The judges. The Boss.

Mini Ramp and Rage Recap

On Saturday, July 28th we held the 14th edition of Mini Ramp and Rage at Midtowne Skatepark. A few short rain showers rolled through during the event but overall the weather was great and the guys were ripping.
When Carter first started coming to this contest he had to push in the flats to get speed. Now he has no problem airing out over the coping.
Russell from Almanac Coffee was there with some awesome cold brews for us to fuel up on. Be on the look out for his coffee in the Duluth Folk School, coming soon!
After wrapping up the action, we moved on to the Vans skatepark cleanup. They sent us all the essentials to tidy up the park along with tote bags, hats, and water bottles for all that helped the cause. Thanks, Vans!
Shop rider Danny Johnson paying his dues.
Kaden and Carter put in work on and off the ramp.
1st place went to Carter for the second year in a row. This kid did some messed up tricks and seems to go bigger every year.
Nate dawg took home 2nd place as well as best trick for a back tail bigspin and a nollie front heelflip. Well deserved!
Eric killed it all day with the stylish maneuvers he's known for and ended up in 3rd for his efforts. The fact that our oldest participant was doing switch grinds in most of his runs is just wild.
Thanks to all of the skaters and everyone that helped clean up the park! We raised $65 for the GND skatepark fund. Shout out to Vans, Almanac Coffee, Thrasher, Creature, Bronson, OJs, Mob Grip, and Indy Trucks for the support. See you next year for round 15!
