WIP Transports for Battlefleet Gothic and other things

Lighting and metallics still to go.
So this is how it is coming along. I hope to get the six transport/supply ships done soon. I should have a full day of working on it this Tuesday, so I better get some sleep right after I post this.

I am liking the color on this one thus far.
The colors on this is pretty cool looking, I painted then washed and then went back over with the main colors once more. Once I get the lighting done and some shiny parts it will be perfect.

3 transports/supply, another 3 on the way
Here is a work in progress of the transports/supply ships, just got the Primer on, letting it sit and then finish this up probable by on monday. I will start work on the planet also, I feel like a earth type world. The stands with post are for more asteroids.

Terrain Board I made many many years ago...

I had this idea of making a terrain board probable over 10 years ago I think, and when I moved to Maui from Oahu I had given them to the owner of a local hobby shop so people could use it. Funny to see how badly the choice of color was for the board, but I was younger then.

He had dug it out recently and let people use it. It is pretty beat up and the brown is just bad. But as my first attempt at a large terrain piece it was fun to make. Though section is missing, he had 3 out of the 4 parts for people to play on. They are on 2x4 foot foam sections, somewhat interchangeable.  It can be setup in a number of ways. 2x4, 4x4, 6x4, 4x8.

I may tackle something like this in a future date, but as it stands I don't got the space to tackle a project that takes up to much space.

With some work it can be passable once again as a playing surface.

Painting a Red Planet

Been busy at work painting up a planet for tomorrow.... I mean todays game. It is past 12am I really got to sleep.

Ok, this is a work in progress of my red planet. I am pretty happy with it as it stands but need to touch up a tad bit and call it finished.

Red Planet next to smaller blue one.
Looking at them side by side you can see the size difference I hope. I really like how the red came out, I did multiple laying in brushes then patches followed by more patches of paint.

A plastic half sphere I found.
I have two sizes, and wish to find a real big one, so I can make a Gas giant with a ring around it. If anyone knows of where to get a larger plastic sphere let me know.

Painting a Planet

My first Planet I got painted up. I am happy with the outcome. I was going for a blue planet with different horizontal lines and grouping of blue across it. I am debating on putting a dark and light side to the planet or let the lighting in the room dictate the shadow effect.

I plan on doing a rocky red type of planet next, something like mars. I want to make all the variety type of planets from Battlefleet gothic and other scifi worlds out there. If you good links to cool looking planets put them below with a link.

View from +/-  30%
More likely this will be the view one will see the terrain piece at. I may make a second pass of blue or a dry brush blue over this.

Battlefleet Gothic asteroids

I started up some asteroids for BattleFleet Gothic and other space games. I plan on making perhaps 30 or so of them.

Once I paint the bases and post they will be a done deal.

Terrain making goals

Waiting on my Crusader Army I starting to build up some Flames of War desert, I have decided to create and build more terrain for this.

The following link is a good idea and I will use this guys one to get some trees going. I will probable have to make more bases for the desert and I better ask my friend for more MDF cut boards so I can work on this.

Building Palm Trees

I also want to build some buildings for the desert, and will probable just copy the Flames of War ones for style and type of buildings.

I can't wait for the Crusader stuff to get in, still waiting on my friend to put the order in for me and pay him!

jagdpanther with ruined building

I painted the ruined building up years ago for a friend and always wanted the building for myself. I figure I'll paint the Jadpanther and building as a quick little side project. I am starting to feel the paint bug coming my way this month.

Wish I could find a picture of the one I painted for my friend.

Roof with ridges coming along

The ridgeline is taking awhile, and it is now 5am and I should get some rest. I have to be up at 12 for an appointment at 1pm.

I am thinking I need to cap the top off cleanly or it will look bad on the table. No stove for these guys, I may add one later on but for now priority is to get this done and painted for next weekends game.

Ridges being placed and glued.
This was a challenging part of the project, I thought it would take me a short while. No luck of that happening.

The roof is almost done! ... and other thoughts

Between video games and watching TV shows online, I have made major progress for the roof of the Block House. I hope to get it all painted/stained up by tomorrow after my doctors appointment. I am worried the stain will not come out good but I am hoping it works perfectly and will post the final project with video and pictures here on my blog.

Almost finished
I went to one of the local hobby shops today called Other Realms. They have improved their layout and the store is well organized. On monday nights they have a open game tables for people to play. I haven't been there in ages but I found the terrain lacking in quality on the tables. I am thinking of playing some games up there sometime soon and hope to have enough terrain to make a good showing.

So my to do list of stuff I want done up.

1. Dirt Roads
2. Hills
3. Forest
4. Rough Ground
5. Fields (standing crops and open fields.
6. More miniatures done up.
7. walls and fences.

You call that a Block House? part 4

Moving along with my project, I have all the flooring put in, the corners I am just going to ignore doing them and just cut those off in the roof. I also need to get some other major parts done, here is a list of things to get finished up: Rock Foundation, shingles for roof, base and building up terrain the Block House will sit on, make a door (probable make it swing and have a little latch), paint or stain the building possibly both.

All stacked up.
To give you an idea of the size of this building, the Height is just under 6-1/2", 1st floor 4-1/2" x 4-1/2", 2nd floor is 5-1/2" x 5-1/2".

2nd floor with roof off.
As you can see, I haven't finished the roof yet, I have to get the shingles on but I may not have enough material to get it done tonight.

If you wish to see parts one, two and three follow the links below.

You call that a Block House? part 3

Doesn't look like much work done, but trust me it took way way to long to do this.  I got the corners wrong and will cut some pieces to fit that area and blend it in, thank goodness that shouldn't be seen. I know I could have just made it a simple roof, but figured I went to far with the detail I might as well not stop there.

I will start work on the 2nd floor walls now.

The corners are so bad.  =( Must fix it later tonight.

Falling asleep cutting the roofing for the block house.....

I am calling it for the day, going to crash out and sleep before I end up cutting myself from falling asleep working on the block house.  I will add images to this post when I get up.

You call that a Block House? part 2

More updates on my Block House. I got the flooring done for the 2nd floor. I will need to make a ladder and possible a fire place, like a cast iron stove or something. I want to get the second story walls all done. I also got the beginnings of the framing for the roof. I will start off with the good pictures and work my way down to the other ones.

If anyone is wondering, I cut and glued every single piece together. So the 2x4 you see for the flooring are all cut and fitted. I ended up filling the gaps with elmers glue.

view showing the opening to the ground floor.

Lower shot showing more detail

Bottom side of the 2nd foor framing.
Granted no one will see it, but I think it was fun to build up. I kind of screwed up the framing and made some messed up cuts but it will not be seen from the outside so all is good.

removed 2nd floor.

Start of roof framing
I am showing the template for the roof framing. Once the roof is finished I can cut out and start shingling the entire roof. Because I plan on cutting out the shingles and gluing them one by one it should look good. I had done a 10mm house with shingles for Warmaster, so this should turn out good.

Showing the over hang.
I just placed it for reference. Ignore the fact I do not have the 2nd floor walls all done up, possible later in the day I will get to it.

Well that is all for now, enjoy!

You call that a Block House?

I'll show you a Block House!

Back and forth to the hobby shop for supplies. I realize I could just bought one but decided to build one. What I wanted was a good sized building that matched up to the gaming miniatures. I plan on doing the floors and have both the roof and second floor be removable so miniatures will fit. I have much work to do which includes stone work for the foundation the roof will be shingled and put in a fireplace I suppose. Also need to put in a ladder or steps to the second floor

The beginning of my build.

The plan

Lining some sections

Wall section glued

First floor

Floor framing for 2nd floor

Placed on top of first floor

Size comparison

Working on a Block House

I started work on a Block House for Muskets and Tomahawks. It will be pretty big I think, I plan on doing it all from scratch. Here is the start of my project. Here is some layout without gluing as of yet.

Glued wall section with gun ports.
This last picture is what the walls will look like. I plan on making a second floor and roof. I think the roof will take some time to get done.

Pine Trees

I bought some pine trees by Bachmann on Amazon. I cut out the bases painted and put ground cover on them. In the picture foreground those are done, the back ones are almost done. Later I will assemble other larger cut outs so these could be placed on top of them if need be.

Flames of War - Objective Marker, this time my own.

I did forget to upload this Objective Marker I painted for myself. Been busy painting up my Flames of War Soviet army for our campaign we have going on at the moment at our local hobby shop, Arm Chair Adventurer.

Now a 360 view of this objective marker

Flames of War Objective Marker

Another Objective marker, this time I painted this for a friend. Enjoy and do comment if you like it or not. I will probable put a border color if my friend wants me too. As it stands this is a done piece.

Perry Miniature - North American FarmHouse (WIP)

As you can see I have finished off the washes on the roof and house proper, I went over with highlighting, then randomized some individual roof shingles to make it pop out a bit more and not look so uniform. There is shading on the house itself with highlight that you may not be able to see in the picture, it was a very light gray wash and of course highlight back up to white on raised areas.

Picture of front of house.
Here is a video of the house with work in progress, I may do touch up depending on how clean I want the house to look.

What needs to be done:

  1. Ground cover painted.
  2. Place in vegetation like grass bushes and some wooden barrels.
  3. Put some wear and tear in the porch perhaps or just leave it.
  4. Add in little things like chairs, chickens, etc.
  5. Matt Varnish the whole thing.

I figure since I was restarting my blog, I would start to post the things I have done. This is a build up and painted terrain piece that I had done using Tamiya sandbags and walls. I feel I did a pretty good job on this one and thought I would share.
