Equipment
My first "serious" camera was a Canon EOS 600 SLR which I used with a Canon 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom lens, a Canon 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 zoom lens and Fuji print film.
In Spring 2005 I joined the "digital revolution" when I purchased a Nikon D70 DSLR camera. This was subsequently upgraded to a Nikon D80 DSLR camera and in July 2011 I purchased a Nikon D5100 DSLR camera.
In early December 2020, after reading many exceptional reviews, I ordered an Olympus (OM Systems) OM-D E-M1X micro four thirds mirrorless camera body plus the Olympus (OM Systems) 100-400mm f5-6.3 ED IS M.Zuiko lens. At the same time, I also ordered an Olympus (OM Systems) MC-14 digital 1.4x teleconverter. Due to delays in fulfilment of the camera body and lens orders, I did not start using my new kit until early March 2021.
In November 2022, I upgraded to the Olympus (OM Systems) OM-1 camera body which finally arrived in February 2023. It is amazing in so many respects, not least subject (birds and mammals) detection which auto-focuses on the eye instantaneously and tracks.
At the same time, I additionally ordered the Olympus (OM Systems) M.Zuiko 12-40mm f2.8 PRO II lens
So …. I am now using the OM-1 and the 100-400mm lens (effectively 200-800mm in a full frame DSLR), sometimes with a 1.4 x teleconverter, for wildlife photography and I use the E-M1X with a 12-40mm lens for landscapes.
I funded part of my new purchases through sales of my Nikon and Sigma equipment to mpb.com. I have used this company on several occasions, the sales process is very easy and they always provide fair estimates for used equipment according to the condition. Highly recommended.
I occasionally use a Manfrotto 055MFV View Magfiber tripod and 701RC2 head for photography but this is more normally used paired with my Nikon ED82 Fieldscope (telescope) for wildlife watching.
I also use the following equipment and accessories:
Olympus (OM Systems) BLH and BLX-1 batteries
SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC170MB/s 32 GB and 64GB memory cards
Olympus RM-WR1 wireless remote
Hoya Ultra Pro 72mm UV filter
Giottos AA1900 rocket air blower
Hama 5961 lens cleaning pen
Vanguard Alta Rise 48 camera backpack
Vanguard Alta Action 70 tripod bag
Vanguard battery and filter case
Tamrac 5574 Expedition 4 camera backpack
Wildlife Watching Supplies beanbag
Wildlife Watching Supplies throw-over bag hide
Eardley Creations waterproof photography/bushcraft mat
