10mm Russian Seven Years War

A little bit of variety for this post and a return to an old project.  I have added more Russian regiments to my collection based on the Russian army at the battle of Zorndorff.

Below we have 220 infantrymen and 4 mounted generals.

All figures are from the great Pendraken range and flags were self printed, apart from the very bad grenadier ones which i had to hand paint, very badly lol

10MM Seven Years War Russians

So after the Giant army I went the opposite way and returned to some 10mm Seven Years Wars.  As part of my Seven Years War collection I'm building the Russian army for the battle of Zorndoff.
So lots of red uniforms.....and quite a few cossacks.

Here are a few pictures of the batch I painted
9 Generals
 9 Horse Grenadiers
40 Grenadiers
120 Musketeers

Sorry for the bad pics, IPad.

10mm League of Augsburg, Part 2

I found some extra photos of the last battle in the previous post...

Another French infantry brigade

Danish cavalry

French artillery line the hedgrow

Dutch foot guards in a corn field watching the on coming French cavalry

10mm League of Augsburg

The last game using the League of Augsburg forces was fought whilst home.  I did not take part but 'umpired' instead as we had 4 players plus me.  We used our 'go to' set of Warlord's Pike and Shotte.

The game pitted an Allied army who had to try and take the town and drive off the French, they failed!

The guys who actually rolled the dice and moved the figures appeared to have a good time and the rules played very well.

Now the eye candy

French infantry brigade

Dutch cavalry brigade, including the horse guards(light hats) and Swedes in Dutch service, in the foreground.

The Wild Geese...Irish brigade in French service.

French cavalry brigade

The French holding the village, dragoons on the right and Guarde Swisse in the foreground.

The figures are the fantastic Pendraken range and the buildings are pre painted 6mm Russian style that I bought off of EBay

War of the League of Augsburg or Nine Years War

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE

The first post of the year is the last game of 2018, it is also the third game in the Warlord Games Black Powder series, a game of Pike and Shotte.  Now we have played all three books I must admit I really enjoy they way the games play and how much fun we have with them.  For a guy like me the conformity of rule books over the three periods just adds to the fun.
This year we will be trying Hail Caesar with Fantasy additions based on the Facebook Group 'Shadow Storm'

As for this game it features armies of the late 17th Century battling in Europe, the army for the Sun King fighting the league of allies.  So this fits in right at the end of the period covered by 'Pike and Shotte' book.  We used the regiment as a single unit and did not divide the pike and shotte elements.

All the figures are the fantastic Pendraken 10mm League of Augsburg range and are painted and owned by yours truly.

So pictures...........

A partial view of the battlefield, an 6x4 table showing the Allied deployment

The Allied left with Dutch cavalry and infantry brigades

A close up of the Dutch guard cavalry

The Allied French Protestant Brigade, the Huguenots.

A Danish cavalry brigade

The Danish infantry.  The Danes were a little more advanced than the rest and had already dispensed with their pike.  To show this in the game each regiment was give one extra shooting dice.

The French right, dragoons, cavalry and infantry, the infantry being the Irish Brigade

A view from the French center starting with the Irish then the Guards

Me pointing the way for the French advance, well when they decided to move....

French Brigade, Garde Francis, Garde Swiss and German Grebe Regiments

Another French infantry brigade advancing

Another view of the Gardes Brigade

The game played out really well, although we did run out of time.  It ended with a minor allied victory.  There were four of us playing and it was an enjoyable way to end the wargaming year.

10mm Seven Years War Russian

Just a very quick update, only one unit of Russian Cuirassiers, Prince Fedorovich.
Again the standard Russian Cuirassier uniform.

10mm Seven Years War

I have not painted 10mm Seven Years War for ages but a few packs fell in to my hands out of my 'lucky dip box' (I bag my figures for my ongoing projects into units and put them all into a big plastic tub and blind pic what to paint).  It just so happens that I got three bags in a row this time around.

The whole batch.  In front are 5 Russian Generals.

The Novotroiskiy Cuirassier, now all Russian cuirassiers in this period look the same.  Buff coats, red saddle cloths and black cuirass.
The only thing that marks the regiments apart are the colours of their standards, this regiments colour is green.

The 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the Observation Corps Grenadiers.  the Observation Corps wore standard infantry uniform except for their boots, they had been issued with black dragoon boots, the dragoons where being reorganised at the start of the war.

All figures are from Pendraken, my only (very small) moan, more of a exhale is the cast on flags and this is only because I am not a very good, in fact I'm rubbish, at freehand painting lol

Seven Years War Black Powder Game

Whilst at home I managed to play a large game of Seven Years War in 10mm at PAW.

The field was occupied by a Prussian Army confronted by a combined Russian and Austrian force.

We used the new edition of Black Powder, BP2.

The table was 8 foot by 4 foot and the armies numbered over 50 battalions, with over 1000 foot figures.  Then of course we had the cavalry.

The long view, AustroRussian on the left and Prussian on the right

Mass Russian cavalry on the right wing

Line and lines of red coated Russians

The Austrians on the left

Prussian left wing cavalry

Prussian center

Prussian right cavalry

Austrians and Prussians clash in the center

Overview of the center

Russians on the hill

Austrians and Prussians clash over the hedges

The game came to an end too soon, so a marginal victory for the AustroRussians but it was a great game to play.

BP2, with army list additions from Olicanlad (check out his great blog http://olicanalad.blogspot.com/)

I love playing large games, to me this is what wargaming is all about....hence my aim of collecting big armies lol

All the figures are the fantastic Pendraken,( https://pendraken.co.uk/) thanks Leon.
