This 150ft tower was built between 1817-1824 to commemorate Wellington victory at the battle of Waterloo by the 6th Marquess of Lothian. It stands on Peniel Heugh near Ancrum, Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders. It was designed by architect Archibald Elliot and replaced the previous monument designed by William Burn which had collapsed. Although the monument actually stands on private land it can be accessed through Harestanes Visitors Centre which can be found opposite Ancrum on the A68.
