Time Fly's

And so it is now late in 2025.. I have had a tough year.. not done a huge amount of gaming and had some major health issues. 2024 saw two doses of covid and some broken toes and this year has seen a prolapsed disc in my spine on 30th of April and then months of recovery and boom it got worse in October and now I am back on the road to slow recovery and avoiding surgery I hope.

Gaming wise, last year I started to get the urge to do some more Vietnam.. dug out my 28mm trays of old Mongrel and Baker Company and TAG mini's and was hoping to get them painted. Also picked up some bits from Battlefronts NAM 15mm range and the rules.

So hoping to setup my self to get back to painting and get some NAM games in next year.
And return to some regular blogging once again.

I seem to have a habit of finding systems and miniature ranges just after they have gone out of print.
Certainly seems with Gale Force Nine and Battlefront merging or buyout, which ever it is.. the Nam range has been dumped in leu of Team Yankee.. Which frankly from the games I have seen played suffers with the whole Flame of War Tank Carpark issues again.

I like the Nam rules as they seem to do a pretty reasonable job of reflecting the differing tactics of the Communist and Free World Forces in the Vietnam Conflict

So I am looking forward to getting some figures painted and table ready and some scenery for 15mm and 28mm built up and on the table.

Update - I just hit post on this and then had a look back at some of my previous posts and games and wow.. 2011.. was the first posts here I made.
A lot has changed for me and a lot hasn't. Its kinda scary. I guess that Wargaming and Table Top Roleplaying is still in my blood!

Anyone after some more Veitnam Wargaming fund the Fields of Fire old Forum, got replaced a few years ago with the new "Reloaded" forum site. You can find it here: Fields of Fire Reloaded Forum

Ok fans, a bit of an apology. This year has not really seen any posts on my blog.
Unfortunately life has been a bit manic and I haven't managed much in the way of gaming or modelling this year. I have been spending more time playing RPGs due to a move and work.

However I have managed to pick up a few good sets of old Rogue Trader 40k era figures for Orks, Marines and Eldar and I have some great games in mind for the new year.

I have had a few figures painted by Jonathan Tarry of Felix Figure Painting

These are a mix of Macrocosm figures and original GW plastic hybrids which I had painted by Jon prior to the release of the new Genestealer Cult Book and Figures by GW. I love the look he has given them. The lighting on the picture is a little bright sadly on the macrocosm figures. But if you have a look through his immense gallery of pictures of things he has painted you will see some lovely work. And at good prices.

So my gaming projects for 2017 are simple.
1. To get the painting table setup, as hasn't happened since the move.
2. To get some more Rogue Trader 40k games and maybe some 2nd Ed played. Getting the Oldhammer Feel.
3. To try and rationalise some of my gaming collections and get more actual games played and reduce the lead mountain a little. As frankly it is more a mountain range and mountain right now.

So a year comes to a close I can only wish you Merry Festivities and may 2017 bring you more games and more fun!

I'm alive! Well sort of..

Hi Folks,
Firstly another apology about the lack of postings of late. New job has meant a sudden and dramatic decrease in spare time and energy levels.

So.. well an update.. errr!

1) Zombies project = stalled..
2) Vietnam Project = stalled..
mmmm I spy a trend!

3) Mongoose Starship Troopers Project = hmmm can you guess?? ..... well actually its moved on a little. Only a little mind, but I have made some progress.. or more precisely, some more purchases!

I found a box each of cougar and grizzly power armoured suits via the personal collection of a local gamer. And then back in Oct an impulse buy got me some painted figures, though sadly these took a battering in the post, and so are now in need of repairs before being able to get onto the table. :(

It is scant progress admittedly but it is at least some progress.

As an aside, I am about to run a 40k campaign for 8 players in our club. I am just umpiring for them. The sides have been picked and each player starts with a 2000pts force.

First session of planning and first campaign turns should take place in early December and games to follow as and when. I will try and get a general over view of the info as the campaign goes along.

So.. going back to zombies quickly!

Well, its going to be interesting to see at some point..  I haven't read the book, but what I can gather from other comments else where on the net, is that the film only loosely follows the book.

So time shall tell how good it is.. filmed up in Glasgow, for some of the city and battle of Yonkers scenes, apparently.

Text Colour - Is it easy to read?

Hi Folks,
I recently put a post up on TMP, to let people know about the blog and a comment was made the white text was not showing up well enough against the background. The background photo, does have some heavy lighting, (which apparently looks like snow, when it isn't. lol).

So if anyone is having a problem with the text, please let me know and I will tinker with the colours etc. For me, it looks quite good and i don't find any problems reading it. But I know some monitors these days can do funny things. So you if you think it can be improved or even if its ok and you like it, please post a comment.

Background Image

If you are wondering what the background image is, then it is a photo from a WW2 game of Rules of Engagement. A weekend long game I ran, for several club mates and shows a couple of squads of US 28mm Infantry, advancing across a sunken lane, in the bocage of Normandy. Their objective was the farm buildings in the background. Crossing the lane was a hard fought battle in its own rights, with the Germans, having been forced back from the opposite road side, but not before causing several casualties for the advancing yanks.
