The Gemini homepage on desktop and mobile web has rolled out its Tools redesign, while Nano Banana continues to be a hit for Google.
On desktop web, Gemini’s prompt bar is now centered with a new “Tools” menu instead of the capabilities being listed side-by-side. This dropdown menu (if you’re subscribed to Google AI Ultra) lets you access:
- Deep Research
- Create videos with Veo
- Create images
- Canvas
- Guided Learning
- Deep Think
Meanwhile, instead of listing suggested prompts outright, Gemini now groups them for a cleaner look. Tapping the chip underneath the prompt bar or within the Tools menu will list four items. For example:
- Create Image: Create an image of my own custom mini figure
- Write: Write an email to my neighbors about a block party
- Build: Build a fireworks generator
- Deep Research: Research and plan a trip to Japan for foodies
- Create Video: Create a video of a highway timelapse at night
- Learn: Walk me through how to solve a tricky math problem
When you start typing, the suggestions disappear. Once entered, the prompt bar slides to the bottom of your screen. On mobile web, the bar remains docked at the bottom, with the suggestions underneath the greeting.
Gemini started testing this Tools homepage redesign in July, with wider availability last month that was then pulled back. As of this week, we’re seeing availability on every account we checked.
Meanwhile, Google on Monday provided another update on Nano Banana usage. In four days, the model has been used on 300 million more images. Since the August 26 launch, over 500 million pictures have been edited.
The Gemini app saw 13 million more first-time users in four days, with Nano Banana so far resulting in 23 million new users.
