Threads ‘ghost posts’ vanish after 24 hours and let everyone know – how to create them

Threads launched a new feature that allows for more expression. “Ghost posts” let you post disappearing content to Threads that automatically vanishes from everyone’s feed 24 hours later, just like Instagram stories. Here’s how to create them.

Threads is, of course, a product of Instagram that offers a Twitter-esque experience with its own unique quirks and user base. On Instagram, if users want to post content that vanishes into thin air mere hours later, stories are the way to do it. Threads has copied that idea, as much as you can copy a feature from a related social network.

Threads says ghost posts will disappear after 24 hours, and any replies will automatically go into your messages inbox. Likes and replies will be private to the original poster, and no one can see them while the post is live.

How to ‘ghost post’

In Threads, posting a vanishing post is as straightforward as posting something that remains forever. All it takes is a simple toggle.

  1. Open Threads and hit the new post button.
  2. Toggle on ghost post next to the post button.
  3. Create your post and hit Post.

Once posted, you’ll be able to find your content in your profile. It’s hidden in a new ghost posts section. The posts themselves are highly noticeable because they’re outlined in a dashed border. All of them also have a time indicator at the bottom to show just how much of that 24-hour timeframe has passed. Once that’s up, they get sent to your archive.

Threads doesn’t let you adjust how long the disappearing post stays up, which seems like it’d be a good option to include.

Ghost posts are available in Threads now on Android and iOS.
