โ“Apple Blocks Indexation for Using Certain Brand Names in Metadataโ“

The Background

On August 4th, the RadASO team made the first release for the new client. The app gained better positions only to lose them the next day. After that, there was no indexation by the added search terms.

On August 24th, the latest release included the addition of some new search terms. However, this had no effect.

How Did We Act?

For the next release on September 21st, weโ€™ve removed some of the competitors' brand search terms from the metadata.

Specifically, the ones with search results showing less than 20 apps. There were 4 such keywords in the metadata.

๐Ÿ“ Our hypothesis was as follows: Apple probably clears out and blocks from indexing all the apps that use these brand names in their metadata. Despite the popularity of some brands in the target country, there are only a few search results on them.

What Was the Outcome?

Once those brand names were removed from the metadata (on September 22nd), the indexing was renewed, and there was again a notable growth in positions for the search term.

๐ŸŸข In this way, the hypothesis was verified: removing some brand search terms with a small number of apps in search results helped to get indexation by other terms used in the metadata in the Apple Store search.

What's the Cost per Install (Apple calls it CPA) in Apple Search Adsโ“

Quite a popular question in chats.
For some reason, when we say, "anywhere from nothing to everything," it doesn't satisfy a questioner, even though it's accurate ๐Ÿ˜Š

We decided to dive into our recent stats and whip up a chart. Classic programmer answer โ€“ super precise yet totally useless ๐Ÿ˜Š

The cheapest install costs $0.01, while the most expensive one: $166.
Dropping in a country or category might narrow the range only slightly.

What can we glean from this masterpiece of a chart?

IMHO, nothing ๐Ÿ™‚, but feel free to kick around some thoughts in the comments.

Today, all ASO experts have noticed a sharp drop in SAP. Let us explain what happened:

โ—€๏ธ ๐๐„๐…๐Ž๐‘๐„: Every ASO tool (including us) received SAP through the Apple Search Ads Account (ASA). It allowed us to get it for any keyword.

That is, all keywords it considers irrelevant to the app = SAP 5.

Examples from the ASA:

๐Ÿ”ธ PDF Scanner - all irrelevant terms from SAP 5

๐Ÿ”ธ Plant Scanner

๐Ÿ”ธ Online clothing store

This may be temporary, but it's not worth focusing on SAP for now, and if it stays, you need to find another way to assess popularity.

We and colleagues have found a salvation for all ASO Tools.๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ˜Œ

๐Ÿ‘‰ At the moment, we can get the current SAP from the Apple Search Ads account from the "Search for related keywords" field when manually searching for keywords.

๐Ÿ†• Search Ads Popularity (SAP) drops again ๐Ÿ“‰

Apple has once again made changes to the SAP of certain keywords:

๐Ÿ’  Keywords in all languages that have special characters in different countries (delivery.com, trackerโ€™, 7-11)

๐Ÿ’  Keywords in Asian languages with spaces (้กบ ไธฐ ๅฟซ ้€’, ใ‚† ใ† ใƒ‘ใƒƒใ‚ฏ)

๐Ÿ’  Keywords in Asian (and other) languages that contain a combination with English keywords (ems-ไธญๅ›ฝ้‚ฎๆ”ฟ้€Ÿ้€’็‰ฉๆต, ใ‚†ใ†ใƒ‘ใ‚ฑใƒƒใƒˆใƒใ‚นใƒˆmini)

There are also problems with SAP in some keywords

It looks like Apple is finally trying to fix a bug with SAP that has existed for years, now it will only show SAP to keywords that are ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ฎ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ searched for.

โŒ Negative Consequences

Previously, Apple assigned the same popularity to one keyword in different modifications.

โžก๏ธ Now, if ASO specialists consider such keywords unpopular and remove them from metadata, they may lose positions for the keywords in another modification with high SAP.

โœ… Positive Consequences

If the algorithm is finally fixed, ASO specialists will be able to clean the semantic core of "junk phrases" that are not truly popular.

Will these changes last? Subscribe to us and let's see. ๐Ÿ‘€

Let's discuss it on ASO Busters in Discord ๐Ÿ‘‰

โœ… Win-back offers for auto-renewable subscriptions now available in App Store

They allow us to reach previous subscribers and encourage them to resubscribe to our app or game ๐Ÿ’ช

Apple displays these offers to eligible customers in various places across the App Store, including:
- on your product pageโ—๏ธ
- in personalized recommendations
- on editorial selections on the Today, Games, and Apps tabs

You can find them in the Subscriptions section of App Store Console, particularly in the Subscription Prices here. Also, you can read more about them here.

So, for us as ASO-specialists, this is an additional free channel that can bring extra revenue with relevant users.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Why SAP scores dropped after Oct 1st ๐Ÿ

On October 1, 2025, Apple stopped showing Search Ads Popularity (SAP) for keywords with scores below ~50.
The first to notice this was Igor Kravchenko (@gorniv).
It looked like Apple killed low-frequency keyword dataโ€ฆ but hereโ€™s what really happened ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’Ž Apple introduced a new โ€œMonthly Search Term Rank Reportโ€ inside Apple Ads cabinet > Insights. ๐Ÿ‘‰ And hereโ€™s the kicker: Apple has never shared this data openly before

๐Ÿ’ŽIt shows Search Popularity by country and month, with up to 15 months of historical data.

๐Ÿ’Ž Two metrics are now interesting for us:
- Search Popularity (1โ€“100) โ†’ the values all ASO/Apple Ads tools use ๐Ÿ‘€
- Search Popularity (1โ€“5) โ†’ what was hidden behind "blue dots"

โš ๏ธ Current limitations
๐Ÿ”ธ Search terms with SAP<37 arenโ€™t shown (didn't find a smaller value)

๐Ÿ”ธ Only 7,500 rows displayed

๐Ÿ”ธ Still in beta - some features (like charts) donโ€™t work properly.

Takeaway
So, the SAP drop you see in ASO tools = Apple syncing it with this new report, where we cannot see low-frequency data by search terms.
Now we have to wait and hope that Apple will fix this.

How can you update your #AppStore screenshots without a new build or release? ๐Ÿ

Some ASO specialists (like @alexandra_tgm) have already written about this, but many people still don't know about this tip.

So if you find it difficult to constantly go through new app reviews, here's a life hack:
1๏ธโƒฃ Launch an A/B-test using Product Page Optimization (PPO)

2๏ธโƒฃ Once the test is reviewed and approved, hit โ€œApply Treatment Aโ€ - and your new screenshots go live immediately for the current version. โœ…

The result?
So you can refresh your screenshot set, test its performance, and roll out visually updated assets - without waiting for a new version or build submission. ๐Ÿฆพ

#AppleAds: Search results expansion in 2026

Now:
- Ads appear only at the top of App Store search results

In 2026:
- Ads can appear both (โ—๏ธ) at the top and further down in search results

No campaign changes needed - all Search Results campaigns are automatically eligible. You canโ€™t choose or bid on a specific position.
Ad format and billing (CPT / CPI) remain the same.

๐Ÿ’ก In theory, this unlocks the ability to measure how much traffic actually reaches lower search positions and how it converts vs top placement - a new signal for understanding user intent and scroll depth in App Store search.

๐Ÿ†• Insights Report in Apple Ads

Since March 3, Apple introduced an additional ad placement in App Store search, replacing the 2nd organic position. As of March 17, it has been rolling out WW.

Yesterday, Apple released an updated Insights report โ€” you can now see Daily Search Term Impressions Share across All Ad Positions.

๐Ÿ’กSince the First Ad Position share is shown separately in this report, itโ€™s easy to calculate how many Impressions the new 2nd placement is capturing.

For example:
1st Ads Position = 500 Impressions
All Ads Position = 750 Impressions

So, the 2nd placement gave 250 Impressions

Everything else in the report remained the same, except for the design.

It's good that Apple updated it, because it used to be less user-friendly.

But it's a shame that we still don't know the Search Popularity for search terms less than 44 (2nd screenshot). ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐Ÿ  WWDC 2026 โ€” ASO updates

Apple finally gave us more tools for creatives.

What's now possible:
1. The big Product page header - for ALL apps. Video or image at the top of your product page. Works in CPP too.

2. This large banner also works right in Search Results. You can run it instead of screenshots - so the 1st thing a user sees in the results is under your control.
The same goes for Apple Ads (Search Ads & Today tab).

3. You set all of this up in App Store Connect in the new sections.

4. ๐Ÿ†• Asset Library - one place to store all your creatives (screenshots, headers). Best part: you upload them separately from the build. Want to refresh a creative? No need to wait for a release ๐ŸŒŸ

Rolling out this fall 2026. Start prepping your assets now. ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿค” How do users discover apps?

More and more people skip App Store search and go straight to ChatGPT, Gemini, and other AI tools:

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œBest budgeting app?โ€
๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œBest habit tracker?โ€
๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œAI assistant for work?โ€

AI is becoming the new discovery layer for mobile apps.

And hereโ€™s the reality:
If AI doesnโ€™t understand your productโ€™s brand, it wonโ€™t recommend it.

In 2026, your brand is incomplete if itโ€™s not visible in AI.

And if your competitors are already there โ€” youโ€™re not just behind. Youโ€™re invisible in a growing discovery channel.

Thatโ€™s why RadASO is launching AI App Visibility.

We help apps:
โœ… get visible in AI systems
โœ… improve AI understanding
โœ… increase chances of recommendations

Impressions have appeared in the Google Play Console ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Only page views (Store listing visitors) and installs (Store listing acquisitions) were available previously. Impressions weren't tracked.

It appears that traffic from generic keywords is now categorized under Explore, while Search impressions - including branded and closely associated searches - are now grouped under Paid & Direct.

๐Ÿ”น If you have few Impressions, it means you have poor rankings for your keywords.
๐Ÿ”ธ If you have many Impressions but poor conversion rates, revamp your visuals (icon, screenshots, video).

You can find it under Statistics > Reach

๐Ÿšจ Google Play Console gets a major UI/UX refresh

Google has redesigned the interface and changed how ASO performance is analyzed.

What's new:
1๏ธโƒฃ The Conversion analysis section is gone ๐Ÿซ‚
Analytics now live under Store Listings with updated charts.
All familiar filters remain available.

2๏ธโƒฃ Metrics were renamed:
Store listing visitors
Store listing acquisitions

Store Listing Experiments are now created directly from each Store Listing instead of a separate section. So you can run experiments for both the Default page and CSLs.
You can "Import an asset from current listing" ๐Ÿ‘

Looks like Google is turning Store Listings into the main hub for both analytics and A/B testing.

// There's no data available yet for July 10, but we think Google will fix that.

Have you already tried the new interface?
