Motif ELEVEN of the 25 Motif Challenge

This is 'Part One' of a hat project, that will feature tatting. My sisterinlaws and I all have cheap Walmart straw hats, but we are 'fancy-ing' them up! Here is the first photo, and there will be at least three different tatting pieces added to the hat during this winter.
Motif 11 is the medallion on the crown. I used Manuela size 20 thread ... and needle tatted the medallion. The pattern is Round #5 from the 'Ultimate Book of Tatted Doilies' by Annie's Attic. It needed to be a bit larger, so I added a round of simple rings and chains.

The hat needs more ... I am adding a piece of rose fabric to the underside of the brim, etc.
As the other bits of tatting are completed and added to the hat, they will be included in my 25 Motif Challenge.

At work... on the road

I am working on my 25 Motif Challenge!
We moved cattle from summer pasture... and I took my tatting along.
Most of the day, I was simply driving the pickup... either behind the herd to shut gates or in front to open gates, as we passed through neighbors' pastures.
I tatted as much as I could. I took along something in black, because I hoped it would not show any soiling it would surely pick up! :)
Here is a photo of my tatting sitting on my coverall-clad knees ...
I could tat a bit, then drive a bit, etc.
Only once did the men have to wait for me to catch up to the cows.... I had forgotten to look up every few moments!!!

OOPS... 15 motifs to finish in 44 days!!!

I have spent the past two months... happily, lazily thinking of the fun I will have tatting this winter, when the snow is piling up outdoors and the fire is warm indoors!
BUT, today, I realized I have 15 motifs to finish before January 1, 2009 if I am going to finish the 25 Motif Challenge!! That works out to 15 motifs in the next 44 days!!!
And I won't have 44 days, in reality... it just doesn't work out that way! I am sure things will come up so that I won't be able to tat everyday!!!! YIKES!!!
Well, here is the math: it works out to be about one motif every three days! YIKES!!! Double YIKES!!!
Well, I have three motifs nearly complete... so I will work on them first! Wednesday, we are moving our cows from summer pasture to winter fields, and I spend most of the day slowly driving a pickup behind the bunch. I am taking along my tatting!!!
I will report back on Thursday!!! :)
