David Stevenson Reveals ToyConUK Customs & Daily Raffle

David Stevenson will be exhibiting and selling his work at this years Toyconuk on 29/30th April in London at booth number 13 (directly opposite the Toy chronicle booth.) Each day he will have a raffle to win a mystery custom. Tickets are £2 each or 3 for £5. The drawings will be at 4pm each day at his booth and you must be present to win.

Puffpipes.ca Boast Industry Leading Artists

This ad published 18/09/2014 in the Vancouver (BC) paper was brought to my attention by fine artist Camilla- long time friend to the Designer Toy industry, exemplifying the care we as a community have for each other. Designer Toys is a small, tightly-knit community.

21/09/2014 With the availability of more accurate information, some clarification is needed.

Puffpipes (.ca) are toting an advertisement depicting an un-credited glass sculpture, and pipe. It's not difficult to identify the form of the hand-blown glass sculpture is derivative, and even a reproduction of, the Kidrobot Munny and Bot platform- two of Kidrobot's most internationally recognized product lines.

What's not immediately visible in the advertisement would be the artist(s) responsible for a piece Puffpipes.ca boast as a representation of their industry's creative leaders. I take issue with Puffpipes.ca 's portrayal of an unspecified reproduction of a designer toy form, as a reflection on their industry, without appropriate context. It gives the impression that Puffpipes.ca would have readers believe these designs are singular to their product lineups, and wholly original to the "industry leading artists" whose work they represent and sell.

The originating artists Coyle & Slinger are fully transparent about the origins of their works, and their relationships to Kidrobot.

When this information is withheld from distributor's advertisements, website, social media & informational outlets, it muddies responsible advertising practice. Artists distributing through retailers like Puffpipes.ca may be wary of the efficacy of the promotion they may receive, or the communication of their practice.

Form (Qee) + Function (NES) = MIND BLOWN

German designer Hannes Hummel did something you don't see very often.  He made a useful vinyl toy.  Like functional.  IT DOES STUFF.  In this instance, 

a hacked vinyl toy and nintendo mashup. the inside of its head is a gameboy advanced which is controlled by a nes controller. the body is a qee vinyl toy.  the soldered chip features full motion video playback, web & filebrowser, and different game console emulators.

I feel like our community has a pretty good handle on form but function (as is often the case) regularly eludes us.  What do you think?

Following the "something for everyone" rule of retailing, Carson Catlin has executed a plethora of differently sized customs for sale at our NYCC booth #3121. From 3" Dunny customs all the way up to an 18" Qee Bear, you'll definitely find one to suit your budget! Come meet CCC at booth 3121 at 2pm Saturday October 13th for his signing.... I believe we are going to display and sell SOME of these customs before the signing, but we'll be holding some back until Carson signs. I'd imagine the 18" Qee will be on display in our booth the whole time, cuz it's just too big to hide. Photo op!

Jon-Paul Kaiser and Tenacious Toys NYCC exclusive Pandaimyo

Thanks to Jon-Paul Kaiser's Artist Proofs, I was able to get my hands on the as-yet-unnamed Tenacious Toys NYCC exclusive Blue Pandaimyo. Next to the 3 other colorways i have to say this is one of my favorites, JPK will have some fantastic toys out this year and this is certainly a must own.

Priced at $28 and limited to 300 pieces, Blue Pandaimyo will be available at the Tenacious Toys NYCC Booth #3121 where JPK will be signing them, and they'll be sold online at same time.

Another excellent custom by Dave Webb- this one's a Qee! "Honeybear" is a custom 5" Toy2R Bear Qee...  Honey is pouring out of his cuts. Showing you just what a sweet lil guy he is despite his gnarly teeth.

SNEAK PEEK: Scott Kinnebrew x Star Wars x Toy2R customs

Okay, I'm not sure what these are for, but Scott Kinnebrew teased us with this shot of two Star Wars-themed custom 8-inch Kit Kat Qees. Looks like Kabe from the Cantina on the left, and and Ewok (Logray??) on the right. Secondary or tertiary characters, to be sure, but honestly those are the ones that interest me the most. Bad ass. I guess we all have to wait and see if there will be more, or if there's some event or show happening that warranted two customs along the same theme... Scott likes to tease us, the bastard.

We're really excited to continue our support of our favorite Goth (and minor local celebrity) Voltaire by stocking all 4 of his upcoming Toy2R Mini Qee releases: Deady Bunee (in both Color and Black/White colorways) and Sleezter Bunee (in both Color and Black/White colorways).

Deady Bunee and Sleezter Bunee are the next figures in Voltaire's popular collaboration with online role-playing game Adventure Quest.
