Comanche Area Newspapers
The Comanche Area Newspapers represent a collection of newspaper titles from Comanche County, Texas. The bulk of this collection comes from The Comanche Chief, which is owned and operated by the Wilkerson family and is now in its third generation of newspaper publishing. Nancy Wilkerson is the publisher, and her sons Lance and Bradley Wilkerson are co-editors. The Chief has the largest circulation for a weekly newspaper from the Granbury area to the Brownwood area and from Waco to Abilene. The Comanche Chief is the successor title of the earlier Comanche Chief and Pioneer Exponent. Earlier titles represented in the Comanche Area Newspaper Collection include the Comanche Weekly Visitor, the DeLeon Free Press, and the Comanche News. The Comanche Area Newspaper Collection was digitized through the support of a Tocker Foundation grant awarded to the Comanche Public Library.
