Texas Ghost Town Newspapers
Due to its sheer geographic size, the history of Texas is scattered across multiple rural cities, and unfortunately this includes areas and people who no longer have voices to tell their histories. The Texas Ghost Town Newspaper Collection represents Texas communities with populations near or below 1,000 and newspapers that were published before 1970. The newspapers in this collection were either loaned or donated to University of North Texas Libraries by groups who recognized the need to preserve the histories contained in these issues, even while those groups did not have the resources to make them available. As a result, UNT Libraries applied for and received a Tocker Foundation grant to make these newspapers freely available on The Portal to Texas History.
