Lilac Bush Begone...

 Came home on Tuesday to find the beloved Lilac Bush gone...chopped down and taken away...

Sad...but I understand. It was undermining the foundation.

Our landlady did consult with us and asked what would we like to see...a Azalea Bush and a Birdbath would be nice.  She came home all giddy stating she found a pink Azalea Bush and a birdbath that matches my solar light. We will spend Sat and Sunday laying mulch for her. OH and I took these on Sunday:

Hammondsport is my happy place. Love it up there (48 miles north).

Ok, by the time this goes up (pre posting this on Wed. afternoon), I will be firmly planted with my head in the proverbial sand called work and standing outside in the pouring rain. Have a great day all. I spent Wednesday afternoon putting out more resumes.

Meme Filled Wednesday

 Thank you all for the kind comments from the other day (3 days?). Nothing has changed at work, its time to literally move on. Unfort. jobs are scarce here, house hunting / moving is proving to be difficult, and so on...it will all happen when it happens. In the meantime, there are memes to get too...

Welcome once again to Tuesday4 in memory of Toni Taddeo... Lets discuss the times we live in.

1. What changes are you grateful for? 

I am grateful to having a job...even as contentious as it may be. This time last year I was getting ready to graduate and we were in lockdown, still are. Oh, I know, I truly did not answer the question.

How have things changed in your life time?

I would have to say technology. And things like Amazon/online shopping. I also see the breakdown of the family structure, sad but true.

2. Did your parents have things better than you today?

In some ways...things were probably better off financial. My mom didn't have to work, but she did. NOW it takes both parents or multiple jobs to make it.

3. What time period would you rather live in.. or are you okay with today?

Again, technology plays a big part...however, I think we should get back to living in simple times; parents raising their kids, stop this nonsense of political and education raising the kids, Nationalism/Patriotism, that is big for us. Oh and get back to church and the teachings of Jesus Christ. I personally ache for getting back to farm living, technology at a distance and so on. However, with that said, I have no desire to give up internet. 

4. What changes would you make for our time to make it nicer/better to live in?

One word; GOD. This nonsense what is going on; the government taking over and doing what they are doing, nope...bring back God in the schools, businesses and so on. I also say strip the government of all this power and back to the Constitution; WE THE PEOPLE. NOT We the Government.

1. What are some memories you associate with spring?

Snow melt, warmer temps, rearranging the closets and dresser drawers, cleaning the house and so on. 

2. April showers bring May flowers...was that saying proven true where you live? Snapdragons, anemones, carnations, lilacs, sweet peas, tulips, lily of the valley, orchids, roses, gardenias...which one on that list is your favorite May bloom?

3. What are your top three distractions and how do you deal with them?

Work, work, work...and obviously, I am not dealing with it very well. Way to many cooks in the kitchen so to speak way to many so called management/supervisors who think they are boss and who run over the employees.

4. Do you eat beef? In the course of a week, how often is beef on the menu? A hamburger, steak, prime rib, or a roast beef dinner...which beef entree would you choose and yes you have to choose. Unless you're a vegan, and then you may pass. 

We eat beef practically everyday. I prefer a good hamburger or roast beef. Don't ask me to choose.

5. In what way were you creative during the month of April?

HA. Nothing, zilch. Wasn't creative. I am though, being open minded about moving here or there...

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Hair cut day/day off. It should be interesting to see the different store front window/ or what is different. That is one thing I splurge on; getting my hair cut/done. Pay day is tomorrow, putting it all away in a safe place. It's going to take bookoo bucks to move.

Contentious Week...long post

 You know...its been a very contentious week here...and I am so ready to just get moving...been saying that for awhile now. Let's start with why it has been a contentious week. For the record, what I say here has been repeated to management by yours truly...so its no breach of nothing.

I was ordered outside on Tuesday by a certain member of management (orders from Corp); mind you it was barely 20* and snowing. My supervisor saw me and ordered me back in. We had words...well, truthfully, I had diarrhea of the mouth. He listened.

Then come Wednesday on my day off, we had to stop at my employer to get a few things...and saw this. That certain member of management once again ordered the Health Ambassadors outdoors. Once again, it was barely 20* and it was snowing...she took it upon herself to erect this canopy. She overrode my supervisor who is also management. Come Thursday morning I was ordered back out. Between that, the husband/spouses and customers complaining and mad about us being outside, it was not good...and I am pretty sure Corp. got quite a few phone calls and emails. By the time I got home on Thursday there was a lovely message from Sparky, which literally got the ball rolling.

She had sent series of links to teaching jobs and a house. Next thing I knew, the ball got got rolling fast, more like a avalanche. Unfort. that house fell through as they were not accepting VA Loans (been approved for a VA/Veterans loan), plus it/the house had issues. Here it is 48 hours later. It's all good. I like to call it Divine Intervention. 90 days to find a house -here or there. So the

is on. We are off and running...hubby said he is not settling; 3-4 acres and on our budget ($100,000-132,000), no trailers, want a sturdy house, not afraid of work. The VA has assigned us two agents -one in Georgia and one here in NY (due to mother in-law-hence why we need acreage, she would have to move with; we would put up a small in-law place). Both are vying bigly-unfort. we are not the only ones migrating south  ---whichever the  Lord leads, that is where we are going. Is it unrealistic to keep to our personal budget? Maybe. We shall see. Like hubby has said plenty of times, "This plandemic has taught me a few things; one of them is land is king. Getting out of the city/town is a must. Being self sustainable is another must." So, stay tuned ---the great race is on, 90 days folks, 90 days. The end of July leading into August. I have to thank good friends Sparky and Steve for kicking us in the rear to get going and I mean that kindly (and they know that too). Keeping noses in the ground and ears open. 90 days folks, 90 days.

Close, very close...on a happier note, the cold and snow have left us and onwards to 60-70*. They might just regret putting me outside. You want me to stand outside in that kind of weather with a mask on? Outside? in a canopy with no one around? You haven't really thought that through, have you? Sunny and 60-70*? Seriously? Oh, I did stand outside yesterday and it was 50* and gloriously sunny, beautiful day. The management did make one nasty remark, "If its raining and thundering/lightening, we will think about letting you back in." Ohhhhhhhhhhhh really??????? (was my remark)-- Grin. Just like an animal...that's ok, we shall see what happens if and when that happens, until then, enjoy the sun and warm temps. Grin. P.S. for the record, I do know the Super Walmart in Waycross, GA is not forcing the issue of standing outside...why? Because it is warm and humid. I have another friend who lives in Waycross and she thought this was so funny.

Because either way, 90 days folks, 90 days. I'll/we'll be somewhere in 90 days. Hang on, folks, the race is on.

Yes. Hornell boasts the largest church steeple in this area.  You can also see in the video. Actually, no matter where one is, you can see it.

3.Does your town have parks, restaurants?

4. Do you think your town needs changes to make it better and if so what changes would you make?

Hornell is very socio economically deprived. We are relatively safe, low crime rates, unfort. drugs have entered this area.  If it wasn't for that, I  think its beautiful. However, most folks drive the 80 miles either to Buffalo  or Rochester for work and entertainment. This pandemic has really hit this area hard. Our biggest employer is Alstom (makes rail cars), Walmart and Wegmans. How about I leave some videos?

On Tap for the Day: Day off but...

...gotta' go get coffee, lunch meat, potatoes and maybe a donut or two ((grin)).

Hubby has to take his mother and her husband to a local motel for a couple of days. Their bathroom is getting a redo for a disability bathroom; roll in shower. We did not want them to be there when they come in later today and tomorrow. It is already enough they have to leave their home for a couple of days. We simply do not have the extra room and no one else wanted to take them in. The motel and nursing staff are aware of the issues and they will have a suite. 

What's for dinner? I guess hubby will cook out if it remains nice. It is suppose to be in the high 50's today.

Pondering...the talk at my employment. There is now a extra question on the Covid questionnaire now that we have to answer BEFORE we enter the building and get our heads temp. swabbed...there is talk about about the vaccine being mandated and lots more talk of folks who are saying NO, but it is being pushed and the younger folks are jumping and taking the vaccine, not us older folks. BTW, the masks aren't going away at my employer anytime soon and folks in general are getting antsy  angry, especially those who have been vaccinated.

 Ok, let's try this again...joining in with the Saturday 9.

1) Is rain expected where you are today? Probably. 24% chance. Currently its 37* and cloudy.

2) In this song, Barbra Streisand warns everyone to not spoil her optimistic mood. What is something you're feeling really good about today? I don't know yet. I slept in until 9 am, got a good sleep but disturbed by some dreams. 

3) She sings that life is candy and the sun is a ball of butter. Which have you consumed more recently, candy or butter? Candy. 

4) This song is from the musical Funny Girl. It's based on the true story of Fanny Brice, who starred on Broadway, in movies and on the radio between 1910 and 1951. Usually, but lately, let's just keep it real its more like "Head in the clouds". Wanting out of blue state NY and the scandal clad governor who is giving the illegals money and status before his own citizens.

What color is your favorite sweater? Since my wardrobe consists of like 80% of winter clothes, I would say the majority of my clothes are sweaters, cardigans, button down sweaters, pullovers. I don't have a favorite since most are black, gray, green,  brown, purple, red. I do have a favorite gray cashmere one though.

Oh speaking of blue states...New Hampshire is purple. I see their Republican governor has done away with the mask mandate. Just a thought to the governor, "Your states motto is Live Free or Die, you sort of missed that mark, didn't you? Since your state and Maine have very low death rates, two of the lowest in the Nation alongside Alaska, Hawaii and Vermont." Hmm...just wondering about that stuff. Probably because you have wide open spaces up there in God's country.

Late Friday Post-All About Duvet's

 Again, thank you for the kind words. The only thing we can agree on is we want out of Hornell...so where does that leave us/the subject of moving? Who knows. The property in PA was sold...so back to the multiple proverbial drawing boards. We have sort of resigned ourselves to the fact we can not afford moving back south...but who knows...we continue to look. We also agreed that neither of us (ok, the three of us) do not want to live in a city, no neighborhoods, country living is a must. So again, back to the drawing board. I will say each of us have spread sheets and weighing pros and cons.

How about I skip right ahead and discuss Duvet's. Duvet is a French word meaning "down". A Duvet is a type of bedding consisting of a soft flat bag filled with either down, feathers, wool, cotton, silk or a synthetic material. I grew up with having Duvets. While I was changing out the winter one we have, I thought I would do a quick post. Well, ok, I ordered a new spring one. The winter one we have is quite heavy. I didn't think to take a photo of that one.

The Duvet came in two boxes; each rolled up. One is a thick roll like a mattress and the other one has a zipper and its a sheet like which is the Duvet Cover. Nowadays, you can get them in different patterns and colors. The one I ordered, has ties and can be tied to the cover and the cover has a zipper. I decided to stick with white and with cotton, the feather filled ones are very expensive so I stuck with cotton (our winter one is feathers, my mother bought that for us). So, quickly unrolled it, threw it in the wash on the gentle cycle (one at a time) and than the low cycle in the dryer. NEVER put it on high.

Voila. I didn't think to take photos while I was putting it together, below is a video of how to put together a Duvet and Cover. Which I did refer too, and used the "burrito" method. I purposely did not dress the bed. Actually, I never really fully dress the bed, only if company is coming. What you can't see is my mothers Matelassé coverlet which is underneath the Duvet. That is another subject; Matelassé for another day. Another French product, mine is from Portugal. That can never be thrown in the wash or dryer. Another subject for another day...

Let's discuss the weather...

1. Spring is here. What do you like or dislike about it weather wise?

The most important thing I like is the snow melt. After nearly 6 months of the white stuff, its time for it to go. It also begins the rainy season, which I really don't mind. Weather wise-the windows and doors get to stay open, however, this morning the furnace is on due to the crispness and dampness in the air.

2. How do you fare in humidity? Do you fade or come alive ?

Fade, fade, fade...I am  no fan of humidity...and hubby is reminding me of this everyday while we are trying to decide on where to move too.

3. Do rainy days bother you or are you happy for an occasional break from the sunshine?

I like rainy days, so no, it doesn't bother me.

4. In your opinion, what is the best thing about each season?--

I'll just keep it simple and funny

P.S. EVERYONE knows I am no fan of summer. There is no such thing as central ac up here---oh there are a few homes who have it, but the majority of us have window ac's.

The never ending shut down and the never ending political nonsense.

coffee, jewelry, tacos, wine, books, dogs, chocolate, Netflix, make-up, leggings, cheese, cats

Make up, jewelry, books.

Which three do you keep and how easy or hard was it for you to decide? 

Seriously? No one wants to see me without makeup, jewelry is something you can barter and trade with, books--well that is self explanatory.

3. Tell us something you know or have learned about forgiveness?

Forgiveness is certainty different than forgetting. 

4. What's something you'd recommend that is often overlooked and under appreciated?

Fresh air...get out and enjoy the fresh air and live. Quit being afraid and by all means, don't rely on the government to tell you NOT too.

5. Give us a favorite word that starts with letter K and tell us why this is the one you chose. 

Karma...I often say it; Karma is a ......not that I truly believe in Buddhism /that sort of thing...but I do believe that if you treat someone bad, it will come back on you full force and it won't be good. I am though a firm believer in reaping what you sow. AND you better be careful with that, just saying.

P.S. All these people and Corp. going "woke" you better be careful. Just saying...perhaps I don't need Coke anymore, perhaps I don't need to wear whatever product anymore etc. I'm telling you, the good Lord knows, the devil is roaming free. Hope that makes sense.

My husband asked me if I was 'game' to look at some property today. Sure thing...we are off to the country side of Pennsylvania (an hour south) today and there are a few properties here as well we are heading out too; he made appointments with. Deep discussions going on here...price, taxes, weather; hurricanes, tornadoes, beaches, lakes, mountains...and the very fact that reality is starring at us; prices of homes pass the Mason Dixon line...ouch. Who in their right minds can afford anything over $200, 000? I personally do not want to be house poor. Seriously. Let's just keep it real. So, that is where we are at...and its getting real...we know we have to move. It's scary, truly it is. Looking at all the demographics etc.

Rainy Sunday Salon

 Good morning from a soggy Western Southern Tier of New York.

Time: 9:45 am (yep, slept in until 8:30)

Scene: 58*, rainy and the humidity is up to 93%. Strange to see it rain and not snow, LOL.

What's for dinner? Put in a pot roast in the crock pot last night before bedtime, and it smells so good.

Thinking...today might be a good day to tackle things around the house; basement, dusting, etc. (or not, lol)

Pondering #1...a 18 year old kid at work last night, he made a stupid comment; "All you do is stand at the door and count people and you really don't have any authority. It's not like you do anything like the rest of us do." He was pushing carts and a customer was standing there talking to me about the mask mandate. OUCH. Yes. and there it is. Feeling worthless, and I do think that every.single.day. Wasting my hard earned college education to count people for the rest of my working life, which is 10 years. Wasting away in a state I no longer care to be in. There.it.is. I told hubby that when I got home last night and he goes, "Umm...hate to tell you this, but you are important, they can't open that store unless you or someone else is standing there. By the way, everyone they put there hates it due to the fact you (in general terms) are the first person a customer sees and talks too and you are the first person they complain too, curse at etc. I would say your job is well earned the near $20 an hour to just stand there." 

Pondering #2...hubby was kind enough to put the window ac in our bedroom yesterday and a stand fan up while I was at work. The last few nights have been quite uncomfortable to sleep (in the high 70's with humidity). Hence why I slept in. It was nice and comfy. When did it turn to summer weather already? What, no spring? LOL--he also put the screens up on the back porch and the backdoor. Nice, with fresh air coming in.

Pondering #3...hubby, "Wanna go to Lowes and get mulch? They have mulch 5 for $10." (our landlady wants us to pick up mulch so hubby can do the yard sometime soon.) No, not really. He looks outside and sees it raining, "Yeah, maybe on Wednesday on your next day off." Smart man. LOL---I say pondering...because something tells me we will go to Lowes after all. LOL

 Falling behind seems to be the true "meme". Thank you for the kind comments...I realize I overshare at times---but then I also realize, perhaps there are folks out there in the big bad world who can relate. Onward to the Saturday Meme.

Actually, looking for a home in a another state. After our king here decided to pay illegal immigrants billions of dollars, hubby is onboard now with moving. What state is the issue right now.

2) Maren Morris sings that she knows she and her lover can face any storm. Are you afraid of thunder and lightening?

Nope. But, I will say, it depends on how loud it is.

3) The video for this song shows Maren and her husband, singer/songwriter Ryan Hurd, on the beach in Maui. Would you rather go for a long walk along a beach or a hike in the woods?

I say beach, hubby says woods. Hence the issue of moving to another state. I want close to the beach, he wants mountains and lake living.

 

4) "The Bones" won Morris and her collaborators (Jimmy Robbins and Laura Veltz) the 2020 CMA "Song of the Year" Award. Here's your chance to pat yourself on the back. What's something you have done well lately? (Go ahead. We want to hear about it!)

Ok, here we go. I exploded at work yesterday. My shift ended at 1:30 and my manager (before she left for lunch) told the manager coming on duty I was to leave at 1:30 due to the fact I was over my allotted hours. The second person decided she wasn't going to listen to that. Come 1:45 I exploded. The manager came over and told me I could stay until she could find someone to take my place. Umm...excuse me? NO WAY. This is getting ridiculous-every.single.day. Your not going to penalize me (yes, we get penalize for not clocking out on time). I fully expect to get reprimanded today. 

ANYWAYS, Patting myself on the back. After 6 months of dealing with this issue, I had had finally enough.

5) The song was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Song. For the awards show last month, Maren put a lot of work into her look, including lightening her hair and lipstick and reshaping her brows. She was surprised when saw on social media that people confused her with reality star Khloe Kardashian. How long does it take you to prepare to face the world (on an average day, not for an internationally telecast awards show)?

HA...45 minutes. Only because I have to get up at 4 am. My hours will be changing next month, so I will have to get up earlier. My employer has decided to go to 6 am-11pm for opening hours.

 

6) Experimenting with hair and makeup comes naturally to Maren. Her parents have owned the same hair salon for decades. She and her sister played there as children and took turns working the reception desk when they were in high school. Do you have a hair appointment scheduled?

Yep April 28th. Every 4 weeks. That is the only thing I allow myself privilege of doing.

 

7) Mom and Dad do not go out of their way to play Maren's songs in their salon. They don't want to "bombard" clients with her music, just because she's their daughter. But, if one of Maren's songs happens to come on, they are naturally very proud. Where were you the last time you had to listen to someone else's choice of music? (Bank, doctor's office, friend's car, etc.) Did you enjoy it, or did you wish you could change the station?

My employer has their own radio station and it drives me nuts, period.

 

8) Maren says her favorite foods are tacos and tortillas. When did you most recently eat Mexican food?

Been awhile.

9) Random question: What do you call that thing in your living room? Is it a sofa, couch, or a davenport?

Umm...couch. It would come out cow-ch --that would be my southern midwestern twang. LOL

Tuesday 4 Meme

 Thank you all for the kind comments and not one so kind comment from my post the other day. Until you live with and deal with dementia and mental illness, you really don't have a clue on what that entitles. Most of you have been long time friends who understand that my mother in-law not only has dementia, but she is also classified as mentally ill with schizophrenia and psychosis tendencies. And since I am brutally honest, there it is.

Hump day means day off and a Tuesday  meme on a Wednesday.

1. Lunch can be either glorious or bland, hard to choose or easy. Which is it for you and why?

Since I work and my lunch is usually at 11:30; If and when we have leftovers, I will take that. Usually its a ham or bolonga sandwich on rye with mustard, bag of chips, fruit cup and a can of Pepsi. AND no, it does not get boring.

2. What are your choices for a nice lunch?

See above. 

3. Is lunch a big meal or a light meal for you?

It use to be a big deal growing up...but not anymore. It is a light meal. Since I am on my feet all day and bathroom breaks are few and in between, I keep it light.

4. "Let's do lunch" has become a funny phrase used in movies and jokes and usually just a throw away kind of thing to say.  Do you organize lunch with friends or family often?  Nope. Do you eat out or in? Eat in. There is a small group of friends at work that I sit with or they end up sitting with me. If you eat out what is your favorite place to go? Since dining in is rare here, thanks to the ongoing pandemic and our idot governor...how silly it is to wear a mask going in and then can take it off when your seated. What--doesn't covid move? Seriously. We have been to Applebees three times now and find all of this just so silly. We have been other places, but no other places allow in seating dining. So the car becomes our dining.

Woke up one day this week to this...heading out to the car at 6 am ish  for work. However, the days have been darn right nice and dare say warming up nicely.

It has been nice to take breaks outdoors. I wish the weather would stay like this...but something tells me, perhaps winter isn't done with us yet.

 Thank you all for the kind comments. Honestly, not sure if we are any closer to making decisions in regards to moving...nonetheless, I am so very happy for my friend.

Listening to...my husband. He is irate over an issue with his mother. Long story short, my employer got the Johnson and Johnson vaccine in and so I made the appointment for them to get it (mil and her husband). Big mistake...because now she is made a mountain out of a mole hill. Bottom line is she called my employer yesterday and last evening. Uhhuh...and it has caused real life problems. My husband thinks its time to have them put in the nursing home. Or her in the crazy house...yes, it's that bad. I have to say, when dealing with dementia and a mentally ill person, it is not fun. I am sadden beyond belief my employer doesn't know me well enough to know the things she says are not true. Maybe they do and that's why I wasn't fired yesterday.

If anyone knows how I can block her from calling certain numbers, please let me know. She has to have the phone for Life Alert.

What's on tap for the day? My husband and son voted that we shall go out for dinner today. So, Applebee's it is. In the 32 years of marriage and 24 of being a mom, we have NEVER EVER gone out for Easter. And you know what, I am ok with it.

Pondering...the next move in regards to my mother in-law and her husband. The courts are still technically closed or backed logged here due to the Pandemic, but we did receive a letter stating we are only allowed to move a 2 hour in either direction (we petitioned it awhile back). 2 HOURS? Seriously. We both are just...done. Done with dealing all this...no help from his/hubby siblings etc...and the situation is only getting worse.

It is Easter Sunday...and Easter brings a start of a new season here in the great north. I hope each of you have a lovely Sunday and remember, laughter is the best medicine.
