Earworm, Antipodean edition

Mrs. Drang, former docent at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, is watching some Animal Planet show set at the Bronx Zoo, where they are dealing with a wallaby that some idiot had as a pet.

So, naturally...

Gary Chamberlain 4 months ago:
I got this song in my head Fred,
I got this song in my head,
It'll be there till I am dead Fred,
It'll be there till I am dead.
ADDED NOTES:

  1. This is the original version, with the politically incorrect, racially insensitive 4th verse. I don't have much use for political correctness, but that attitude towards Australia's Aborigine was reprehensible. (Yes, the song could just be saying "Lay them off as they have no further employment after I've snuffed it", but if the rumors I've heard of  "Abo Hunts" are true...)
  2. Apparently Mr. Harris had some rather unsavory habits, and was pretty much unpersoned. This is unfortunate, but doesn't change the fact that this is a fun song.

This reminds me that I missed ANZAC Day.

Sorry, Mate.

And, ANZAC Day:

Memorial Day Earworms

While Pibroch* (or Piobaireachd) simply means "piping" in Scots Gaelic, nowadays it is commonly used in the context of  lament or memorial...

2017, man...

Sure hope 2018 isn't saying "Oh, yeah? Hold my beer and watch this!"

The full version of the traditional New Year's song is rarely heard...

I did not know that Will ye no come back again? (also and more properly Bonnie Charlie) is traditionally an accompanying song, but it is, so...

That Time Of Year

For a change I actually have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off. I had planned on changing my days of, working for a minion who had plans, but she got transferred and her replacement wanted the holiday pay, so...

I guess I'll just have to adjust...

All Hallows Earworm, V

Maybe you won't think this fits, but I always felt it had an eerie feel to it.

All Hallows Earworm, IV

It's a creepy Halloween version of a creepy song about a...

(A more straightforward rendition, albeit also not in the style of the original by Postmodern Jukebox, here. And may I just say, Puddles Pity Party is awesome -- this recording is not typical -- and Postmodern Jukebox is awesome, and when they get together, Awesome Critical Mass is reached.)

All Hallows Earworm, III

(Yeah, I know, cell phone commercial... But if a song inspired by Voudon and/or Santeria isn't appropriate for All Hallows Eve...)(BTW, Desi Arnaz did a pretty good rendition, too, including one on the show with Lucy, but I think Peggy Lee's is spookier.)

I can now report that the building the movie was set in is gone, but the Caribbean Club, a bar in which some scenes were shot, is still there.

There's a big sign that says "Smoking Permitted", another one that says "No Dogs Allowed", and a couple of big old hounds flaked out on the floor.

The wooden carving by the door labeled "Bogart" looked more like Edward G. to me, to be honest.

Sigh -- UPDATE 10/13/2017

Hurricane Ophelia

The good news is that this one is not heading to the USA. Of course, we've seen storms mill about for days and change direction.

The bad news is that Ireland and Scotland need to start battening down the hatches.

I Ain't'nt Ded Yet

It's just, you know, so hot and humid here...

I confess, some of us have been kind of hoping that we'll see Hurricane Ruben* before the season is through...

And I already did this one, so sue me:
Which reminds me I still need to get a pic of me standing by an A1A sign...

Earworm 6/30/2017

My last couple of years of college we hung out at The Fiddlers Green Pub in Ypsilanti. They'd have folk singers, mostly Irish Rebel Tunes, although Marty Burke sang a bit of everything.

This was one.

Alas Marty never cut an album, although there was a lot of not-quite-bootleg tapes floating around. (Folks would sit in the front row with their boom boxes taping stuff with his full knowledge. At least a couple of these were processed well enough to be demos, but so far as I know they never got a hearing...)

Too bad. Marty had a lot to do with developing my rather eclectic musical tastes...
