Salute 2024 – Sci-Fi & Fantasy

Blasting off my not-as-exhaustive-as-it-used-to-be and much delayed Salute coverage for 2024 is Pendraken with Future War Commander 2.0. There is an impressive range of new 10mm metal figures available from their website but no word on the rules which I believe are figure agnostic.

The next table by Ashford Gaming Club was clearly not Epic 40k, don’t let your aging eyes deceive you. Very nice swarms of critters, appropriately spawned from bubbling resin pools.

The South London Warlords had a couple of tables at the show, here a steampunk aerial clash in the clouds.

If you wanted to stride among titans, you had to be a member of the Titan Owner’s Club, but us commoners could at least observe from the sidelines.

The fluffy Burrows & Badgers took a more violent turn in this city siege with looting, pillaging and fires raging through the streets, brought to us by Magrathea.

Finally, the satirical politics and pulp TV themes of Grotesque Gogglebox by BunnyBadgerGames packed an amazing level of detail and flair in very small spaces.

Salute 2023 – Sci-Fi & Fantasy

To celebrate the imminent latest incarnation of the Salute wargames show and not at all because I just realised I still hadn’t published these before, here some impression from a variety of sci-fi and fantasy themed tables at Salute 2023.

Tactica 2024 – Sci-Fi & Fantasy

Sci-Fi and Fantasy themes made up at least half of the gaming tables at Tactica 2024. The big franchises Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones were represented with impressive displays while many classic and new game settings shone on beautiful tables of all sizes.

Below just a small selection of what was on show, more impressions can be found for example in this slideshow by Some Dude On YouTube.

Salute 2019 – Victoriana & Wild West

There were a couple of 19th century shenanigans going on at Salute 2019.

The always gorgeous OSHIRO modelterrain cooperated with Highgate Miniatures and Wiley Games on ‘Horror in Limehouse’. The game introduced the new ‘Tales of Horror’ supplement for ‘Fistful of Lead’.

Salute 2014 – Zombies, Steampunk & Other Curiosities

Apart from the classic genres there were also some weird and wonderful participation games at Salute 2014 that defied easy categorisation.

7ombieTV by Crooked Dice was played on a small but characterful board depicting the streets of London. Would the girls of St Searle’s reach the safety of Crooked Towers before the undead horde descended?

Hasslefree Miniatures created a tribute to Battlefield Bad Company 2 with Zombies roaming the streets of a bombed out desert town.

In Her Majesty’s Name was the ruleset used for Dirty Ole Town by Just About Games. I bought the rulebook published by Osprey a few months ago, just missing such nice terrain to fight over now.

Victorian sci-fi on a grand scale was presented by Red Planet Miniatures in Flight to New Victoria. Will the Martian Prince’s convoy reach safety?

The Essex Warriors played Gear Krieg. Another one of those rulesets I bought a long time ago but never got around to playing. WW2 tanks meeting flying saucers and battle mechs does have its appeal.

Grublin Games brought a prototype of Waggle Dance, a strategy game of bee-wrangling and honey-making, which will soon launch its funding run on Kickstarter.
