BRENNAN ON THE MOOR
05:58
|
|||
|
It’s of a brave, young highwayman, this story I will tell,
His name was Willie Brennan, and in Ireland he did dwell;
It was on the Kilworth mountains, began his wild career,
And you will hear of noblemen before him shook with fear.
It was Brennan on the moor, Brennan on the moor,
Brennan on the moor
Bold, brave and undaunted was young Brennan on the moor.
Now, one day this young Willie, to the highway he went down
He spied the mayor of Cashel a mile outside the town;
The mayor he knew his features and then, “young man,” said he,
“Your name is Willie Brennan, you must come along with me."
Now Brennan’s wife had gone to town, provisions for to buy,
When she saw her lad in chains she began to weep and cry.
Said, “Hand to me that tenpenny," as soon as Willie spoke;
She handed him a blunderbuss from underneath her cloak.
It was Brennan on the moor, Brennan on the moor,
Brennan on the moor
Bold, brave and undaunted was young Brennan on the moor.
With a loaded blunderbuss, the truth I will unfold,
He caused the mayor to tremble and robbed him of his gold;
One hundred pounds was offered for his apprehension there,
So he with horse and saddle to the mountain did repair.
It was Brennan on the moor, Brennan on the moor,
Brennan on the moor
Bold, brave and undaunted was young Brennan on the moor.
Now Brennan, he's an outlaw upon the mountain side.
With cavalry and infantry, to take him they did try,
But he laughed at them with scorn, until one day was said,
By some false-hearted woman he was cruelly betrayed.
It was Brennan on the moor, Brennan on the moor,
Brennan on the moor…
Now Brennan, he’s a-swingin’ there, oh from the gallows high
And the maids they are a-weepin’, they came to see him die
And the ravens swirl around his head, a sorry sight to see
But Willie’s gone and left this world and his spirit’s ever free.
It was Brennan on the moor, Brennan on the moor,
Brennan on the moor
Bold, brave and undaunted was young Brennan on the moor.

FEELIN’ LOW
04:13
|
|||
|
I am a man misunderstood
I'd change your vision if I could
But you won't see beyond this veil
And so it's time this ship set sail
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin low, yes I'm feelin' low
I had the stars, I had the moon
I thought I had the silver spoon
But nothing's ever what it seems
I guess I need a change of scene
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low, yes I'm feelin' low... low
I'm sailing to another land
To execute a new masterplan
I'll only see you in my dreams
And slowly crumble at the seams
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low, yes I'm feelin' low, low, low
Low, low, low
Low, low, low
Oooh, I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low
I'm feelin' low, yes I'm feelin' low

I WILL FIND YOU
05:03
|
|||
|
There's someone in my head, who never paints in red
When dreams get dark and the red sun stalls
Into a dive of slavering fools
And no-one hears my dried-up thirst, the stitches are still clear
With the battle bell still ringing loud, she drives away my fear
And I will find you, I will find you...
There's someone near my arms, who can move with grace and charm
Who'll take the fight to anyone, who tries to see my life undone
Who gets a kick from hanging pains on me
Who wants to wash away my joy, with tears of misery
And I will find you, I will find you...
I feel like evening the score
I feel I've been this place before
There's nothing that I've longed for more
Than peace of mind, in my own time
And something to live for.
There's a picture on my wall, the subject's nothing at all
But it twists and turns in many ways,
And visions come out from the haze
And the more that I stare and I gaze
It seems to twist itself around, into some angel's face
And I will find you, I will find you...

SAVIOUR
04:44
|
|||
|
I went down to the river, to wash my sins away
I was driven by the promise of a dark, peaceful day
But when I came to the river, there were many to be seen
All searching for the answers and the reasons for their dreams
When my eyesight finally slips away
Your hair is turning, fading grey
Our bodies, wracked with scars and pains
I ran away from the river and I sat down, all by myself
And I gave myself a talking to and on a plane there somewhere else
I pray the eagle now out there flying, high up there in the sky
Don't you ask me for directions, there's no safe way to fly
When my eyesight finally slips away
Your hair is turning, fading grey
Our bodies, wracked with scars and pains, yeah...
If Jesus saves, save the people
Save them from their sad, greedy souls
For they can't see their way to freedom
They won't leave a sinking boat
No, no, no, no, no...

BESSIE BRAE
06:48
|
|||
|
Oh Bessie Brae, she took the highway
Searching for some peace and quiet
Searching for a shining knight
Searching for one fine happy day
Was Bessie Brae
She chanced to meet, with an old acquaintance
Who in past times, had laughed a lot
Possessed the things that she did not
He lifted her, he showed the light of day
To Bessie Brae
Her love was white, no thorn in sight
She was heading South with a bag of cares
Forgot to comb and dye her hair
Hoping that no one would see the grey
Oh Bessie Brae
Time had not ripped away her wings
Valueless valuables and other precious things
Time had opened cracks upon her face
A beautiful, presentable, equitable disgrace
I just couldn't believe it, when I saw her cry
She never relented, she never told me why
She wanted to see if both of us could die
Maybe we could make headline news
In the local rag?
And the drink flowed free and the blood did, too
She wrung her hands and tore her hair
A craving wretch, in deep despair
Oh get her home, she might cheat an early grave
Oh Bessie Brae...
Oh Bessie Brae...
Oh Bessie Brae...
Oh Bessie Brae...

SOULLESS
04:26
|
|||
|
Would it be easy to turn a corner and walk those streets again?
Would I want to find a way back to how that it was then?
But I'm soulless, soulless, I've been run right through
Soulless, soulless and I'm sick and blue
And I don't think I can change the way that I am now
I don't think I can change the way that I am now
Is there a place not far ahead, that sells shelter from the storm?
Or is [it] this storm's caused this very place that I've been once before
See, I'm soulless, soulless, I've been run right through
Soulless, soulless and I'm sick and blue
And I don't think I can change the way that I am now
No, I don't think I can change the way that I am now
Faces come and faces go, nothing stays the same
Some commit the crime of lying and let others take the blame
There's always some destruction, whichever way you steer
Those who believe in miracles, are always bound to fail
So I'll keep walking this easy road, knowing that I'm doing right
I've left behind those screaming howls, those never-ending fights
And if fate should ever take my hand and lead me another way
It's just my body and not my mind that's just been led away
Cos I'm soulless, soulless, I've been run right through
Soulless, soulless and I'm sick and blue
I don't think I can change the way that I am now
I don't think I can change the way that I am now
I don't think I can change the way that I am now

BALLAD OF BENNY & HARRY
05:06
|
|||
|
Crashing through my porch door
Waving red reminders in my face
Brandishing a fist of iron
Violating all my space
Should’ve seen it coming
I knew the day would come
When Harry’d bring his evil mothers
Round to drop the bomb
You got nothing left to give
You got no more life to live
Gimme, gimme time to pay
Gimme just another day
Gimme, gimme time
Gimme, gimme time to pay
Time to pay
I’ve fallen on some bad times
Need a grand to fill my show
Life was hard, played my last card
When Benny came into view
Charity quick for all who ask
If you can pay the rates back fast
A temporary fix of joy
But don’t lose sight of Harry Boy
You got nothing left to give
You got no more life to live
Gimme, gimme time to pay
Gimme just another day
Gimme, gimme time
Gimme, gimme time to pay
Time to pay
Stripped of all my assets
I have nothing left to give
Faced with acid termination
I have lost the will to live
I have lost the will to live

REMEMBER THE SEASON
07:19
|
|||
|
When soft voices die
And summer is old
We gather round fires
And keep from the cold
Let’s climb up that hill
Like we did when so young
When the music was new
And we were as one
The nights they grow longer
And smells are much stronger
Trees turn to charcoal
And leaves turn to rust
Evoking sweet memories
Of autumns gone by
Those innocent days
Of mandolin skies
And we make our way home as the sun sets
We treasure our love as the day breaks
Ah, we’ll remember the season
And we sing the old song till the moon dies
Keep digging for gold till the mine dries
Ah, we will cherish the reason
Ah, remember the season
Steadfast and strong,
We stand by our song
The campfire still burning
Our mission undone
We’re driven by melodies
Of autumns gone by
Those innocent days
Of mandolin skies
And we make our way home as the sun sets
We treasure our love as the day breaks
Ah, we’ll remember the season
And we sing the old song till the moon dies
Keep digging for gold till the mine dries
Ah, we will cherish the reason
Ah…
And we make our way home as the sun sets
We treasure our love as the day breaks
Ah, we’ll remember the season
And we sing that old song till the moon dies
Keep digging for gold till the mine dries
Ah, we will cherish the reason
Ah, we’ll remember the season
Ah, remember the season

IT DOESN'T MATTER NOW
03:19
|
|||
|
Could have tried to work something better, could have looked around
Might have seen some way forward, had I stopped looking to the ground
I sort of feel that I might have done better
Sort of feel I could have clawed it back
But it doesn't matter now, what's done is done
No it doesn't matter now, what's done is done
Ain't in the habit of putting myself down
Won't take the blame, if I can just pass it around
It was a hard road and there ain't no doubt
You were falling in love, while I was falling out
Now it doesn't matter now, what's done is done
No it doesn't matter now, what's done is done
Yes, I thought hard about it and the things you claimed
It all seems so ridiculous now, when I look back that way
It's been light years now, since we stopped our stupid game
Let's not kid ourselves, on good ol’ times
There were no glory days, no!
Couldn't stand it now
I could have tried to bite my lip, I could've stayed around
Could have walked just a little bit further, to see where we were bound
But life's too short for taking chances, so on my way I went
Oooh yeah, it doesn't matter now, what's done is done...

THE OAK
05:33
|
|||
|
I have been here before, I once passed through that door
Someone else's claim, pictures without frames
I wasn't so surprised
Tell myself nothing's wrong
But how is it all the seats are taken?
Oh God, help me, how can this be?
Well I wasn't touched much
There is someone standing in the rain
No thoughts of how and why, nor cares for pain
I'll show you a place where you can stand
I take the page and throw the words away
I throw the words away
There's still time to change course,
Don't poison yourself with remorse
Stand over here with me, then I think you'll see
This place is sacred
And I have met the cliché man and I run as fast as I can
There's nothing left for me, please just leave me be
I'm just a boy now.
When I lean my back against an oak
And I wish now that I had known
The stream, in time, had changed its form
Into, into a snake had grown
Into a snake had grown
When I lean my back against that oak
And I wish now that I had known
This tree, with time, had changed its form
Into a snake had grown
Oh, into a snake had grown
It wrapped itself around my feet, it bit me to the bone
It cursed my life, it ruined me and turned my heart to stone
It turned my heart to stone
Turned my heart to stone

DANGEROUS CLOWN
06:29
|
|||
|
Your silence is undignified, you never were refined
Ask someone who knows the theory,
What goes on in your fucked-up mind
You never read the book, I said truths that you mistook
For a bag of lies,
His sugarplum bride, is searching constantly
You can tell everyone, it was me that let you down
And I'll just tell everyone you acted like a clown
But you ain't no open book, babe, and the horse on which I ride
Has slung its saddle and bridle an' all, and was racing to arrive
Now I see, looking back, I must have been a fool
To get that involved with something so wrong
I should have slung you like a doll
You can tell everyone it was me that let you down
I'll just tell everyone, you acted like a clown
No good to talk about it, or to say that you were mine
Cos every minute that I spent with you was a sorry waste of time
But your answers to all those questions that you dragged out of me
Were bound to lead to bitterness and lifelong misery
You can tell everyone it was me that let you down
I'll just tell everyone you acted like a clown
I tried to see your truth, babe, I tried to see your good
But all I found was broken down and trampled in the mud
Every time I kissed your face, it fell off and stuck to mine
And the wickedness there inside you, isn't kept so deep inside
Now you can tell everyone it was me who let you down
I'll just tell everyone you acted like a clown
Your raging ways still haunt me, as I suppose they would
If you were a soul in some other world, you'd still watch me if you could
And my words all hit their target and that's just me, as a rule
If I really did mean just one of them
Think what I might do!
But your words all beat me down, right?
Now think how I must feel,
When you told the church man that you trusted me
Then put me through living hell
Now you can tell everyone it was me that let you down
I'll just tell everyone you acted like a clown
Sha la la la la...
You ain't no open book, babe...

I'M NOT SCARED
03:57
|
|||
|
Scared of growing old
Afraid of being bold
Oh I knew I'd find security
As I gained more maturity
Still I'm scared of growing old, oh
I was scared of being me
Some people never see
That every time I looked into the sky
That elusive sun would burn my eyes
I was scared of being me
Oh Lord, I took some chances
Played a part on merry dances
Then I was was sitting on the shelf
Dreamin' dreams of sudden wealth
Yes, I, I didn't understand, yeah, ooh yeah
Apprehension was the word
And my life was absurd
Because when I looked around me
At the people that surrounded me
Well, life seemed so absurd
Oh Lord, I took some chances
Played my part on merry dances
But then I got down off the shelf
It didn't do much for my health
And now, I understand, yeah
I understand now.
Cos darlin', I got you
I'm feelin' all brand new
And I don't feel I've wasted time
I took some kicks along the line
But darlin', I got you
Oh darlin' I got you
You're all I wanna do, hey!
And I'm not scared, I'm not scared, no, no, no, no

JIMMY THE COINER
Well, across the bar, over the back
There's a man clutching on to a lead-laden sack
Spinning tales from long ago
Of the run-ins he's had with the boys from Bow
Buy a fiver for a pound,
Check the weight of the work, the artwork's sound
A nifty'll getcha ten new score
As a fiver puts just one in the claw
Jim, Jimmy, Jimmy the Coiner
Jim, Jimmy, Jimmy the Coiner
Don't float him no cheque when the time is right
And the barmaid's busy and they dim the lights
Collect the change and gather all,
Neat returns, no trouble at all
Settling scores from long ago, he left behind his only hope
Chance for sure, would like to see
What he can do, for you and me
Jim, Jimmy, Jimmy the Coiner
Jim, Jimmy, Jimmy the Coiner
Jimmy doesn't like this place, no more than you or I
Jimmy would like to dress with taste and run colours in the sky
Well if you think you've heard enough,
Try the weight of the lead in Jimmy's cuff
Never one for flattery, cut them down, assault and battery
Settling scores from long ago, he left behind his only hope
Chance for sure, would like to see, what he can do for you and me
Jim, Jimmy, Jimmy the Coiner
Jim, Jimmy, Jimmy the Coiner
Jim, Jimmy, Jimmy the Coiner
Jim, Jimmy, Jimmy the Coiner
BLACK MARIA
You can see Maria standing every night
Down on the corner, under the light
Ruby lips, black, raven hair
Have a go on her, if you dare
Black Maria, black Maria, black Maria,
She'll show you much more than her smile!
Purple, chintzy papered room
Stinks of cheap perfume
Decant straight from the jar, or else you won’t go far
Clock on the wall, yes it tocks and ticks
Away a lewd half hour of crude antics
Torn and frayed black underwear
Whips and chains hang over her chair
Black Maria, black Maria, black Maria
She'll show you much more than her smile
She’s a service for fine gentlemen
Who like to dabble, now and then
A choice taste of saucy delight
Slip and slide right through the night
Bacon boiled, another slice?
Cheap enough at half the price
Punishment dealt out to all
Who like to play the boyish fool
Black Maria, black Maria, black Maria
She'll show you much more than her smile
Morning comes and a looking glass
Is observed by all, as they pass
Guilty smiles, accusing frowns
A lady's image, spun upside down
Where did it all go wrong?
Why do I sing this song?
If I told you why and now
Would it matter anyhow?
Black Maria, black Maria, black Maria
She'll show you much more than her smile
Black Maria, black Maria, black Maria
Vous voulez faire l'amour?
Black Maria, black Maria, black Maria…

IF I'M NOT BACK TOMORROW
07:22
|
|||
|
All my cards blew out the window, on that cold and lonely day
I unhitched my spinnaker, just to help me on my way
The wind it was a-blowing, a chill cut across that frozen bay
So if I'm not back tomorrow, I might be back some other day?
Well the Captain, he just growled a bit and he ushered me inside
To talk about the latitude and returning with the tide
Both my arms got broken, tryin' to keep the medic men away
So if I'm not back tomorrow, I might come back some other day?
Somebody bent my ear and this they said to me
There always will be plenty more cute fishes in the sea
No need for loneliness, true love it never will decay
So if I'm not back tomorrow, I might come back some other day?
So leaning on the gunwales, I was most surprised to find
That all the fishes in the sea had suddenly gone blind
The unicorns had scattered and the white knights had all been led astray
So if I'm not back tomorrow, I might come back some other day?
Outside the crowd was screaming out, they wanted to see me fall
They loaded up with bullets and put my back against the wall
They tied my hands behind me,
They buried my new boots deep in the clay
So if I'm not back tomorrow, I might come back some other day?
Well finally I found my feet as she was standing there
With blood-splashed armour on her olive breasts and ravens in her hair
The heads of recent victims,
Swung grimly from her woven silk, black plait
So if I'm not back tomorrow, I might be headless in my grave?
Well I never do get lonely when I'm sleeping on my own
I don't like a banging door, I don't answer my phone
Now won't somebody tell me, is this a social disease?
Tell me please
If I'm not back tomorrow, I won't get back until I leave!
Lucifer, in crimson robes, takes Gabriel by the hand
Exchanging pleasant glances, they both walk along the sand
Suddenly the lights go out and angels shedding black tears of dismay
Well if I'm not back tomorrow, I might come back some other day?
Some other day, some other day now
