CHENNAI: A woman was found murdered near Thoraipakkam in the southern suburbs of Chennai city. Police said her severed body parts were dumped in a suitcase and have been recovered by the Thoraipakkam police on Thursday.
Police have solved the case by arresting a man named Manikandan from Sivaganga district. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the woman was named Deepa alias Vellaiammal, 32, from Madhavaram.
During questioning, Manikandan told police that he murdered her using a hammer after a quarrel was triggered as she demanded more money from him.

Later he severed her body parts and dumped it in a suitcase and escaped.
Police said Manikandan reached out to the woman Deepa, a sex worker, through a broker, and she went to Thoraipakkam on Wednesday.
As she didn't return home, Deepa's brother tried to reach her mobile, which was turned off. Later, he tracked her mobile phone using the "find my device" option. He confirmed that she was last spotted near Thoraipakkam.
Based on the inputs he had gathered, he informed the Thoraipakkam police station on Wednesday night. The cops advised him to file a missing woman complaint at the Manali police station. Meanwhile, the cops recovered the murdered woman, and her body was found in Thoraipakkam. The police team immediately reached out to the man who lodged the complaint on Wednesday. He identified the deceased woman as his sister.
The police team tracked the murderer with the help of CCTV camera footage. An investigation officer said, "We are questioning the arrested Manikandan and trying to locate the broker who introduced the woman Deepa to the assailant."
