Producer-turned-distributor Daggubati Suresh Babu recently shared insights about Indian cinema and reviewed the box office value of leading actors in Tollywood. He talked about how Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun, and Prabhas drive their movies to the box office with phenomenal opening numbers.
In a chat with Pinkvilla, Suresh Babu was asked to name Tollywood's biggest stars based on box office success.

He explained that while individual stars have a significant draw, their impact is amplified when paired with a talented director. He emphasized that a director alone doesn't have the same pull without a star, but a collaboration between a star and a brilliant director can lead to even greater success.

He further highlighted that in Telugu cinema, stars like Pawan Kalyan, Prabhas, and Allu Arjun can independently deliver strong box office openings. However, he noted that the success of their films also depends on the type of movie and the combination of actor and director.
Daggubati Suresh Babu asked, “Now, is Prabhas the biggest hero in the country? We don’t know because he has 'Kalki (2898 AD)' and 'Baahubali'... but in between, he didn’t have any major hits.” He also mentioned that debates about who is the bigger star, whether it's Ajith Kumar, Thalapathy Vijay, or Rajinikanth, are common and ongoing, highlighting the continuous discussions around star power in the industry.

He avoided naming a single biggest star but acknowledged that in Andhra, Pawan Kalyan has a massive following. He explained that even when Pawan works with smaller directors, he still attracts big openings. However, he cautioned that if the film doesn't meet audience expectations, like with 'Johnny' (2003), it may not succeed despite the star's popularity.
