Manasi Parekh, who won her first
National Award for Best Actress, “started crying” when she heard the news. Manasi, who shares the National Award with
Nithya Menen (for Thiruchitrambalam) says, “Winning the National Award feels very special, especially since I am currently shooting in Ahmedabad. I felt the same way when I gave birth to my daughter Nirvi.” Manasi says, “When I heard about the win, I started crying and called up Parthiv, who started crying too.
Our film has won many awards, and I hope this is a precursor to greater things for the Gujarati film industry.”
Manasi was with her stylist Niki Joshi, who has won a National Award for Best Costume Design (for Kutch Express) when the awards were announced on Friday afternoon. She says, “After I heard that Niki and I had both won, we celebrated together.” On how this will change her approach to films, Manasi says, “Now I need to choose more challenging scripts and characters. I will need to work towards bringing more accolades.”
‘This award is for the entire team ’
Manasi, who also produced the film, says she instinctively knew that it was going to be a special experience. She says, “We shot the film during the pandemic, and worked twice as hard since everyone had time. Ratna Ma’am (Pathak) who is a veteran actor, thanked us for signing her (for her debut Gujarati film). I would like to especially thank the writers (of the film) and the cast and the crew. This award is for the entire team.”
