Naseeruddin Shah has revealed that he was deeply 'disturbed' by the 1999 Kandahar Hijack of IC814. Speaking at a press conference for his recently released show on Tuesday, Shah recounted his fears of a potential 'wave of Islamophobia' following the incident. He expressed his deep concern and noted that the event left him with a lasting sense of unease.
At a recent media event, Naseeruddin Shah shared his feelings about the 1999 Kandahar Hijack of IC814.
Reflecting on the incident, he said, "I was around 50 at the time, towards the end of the 20th century, and I was deeply disturbed. I feared it might lead to a new wave of Islamophobia, though fortunately it didn’t. The whole situation left me feeling uneasy, even after the crisis was resolved. I couldn’t pinpoint why exactly, but I felt that the passengers and the pilot had endured a truly horrifying ordeal, and the resolution didn’t seem like a proper closure."
Shah also expressed his enthusiasm about working with a talented group of actors, saying, "The thought of collaborating with such wonderful actors felt like being in heaven. It’s hard to imagine a happier situation than that."
Released on Netflix earlier last week, 'IC 814:
The Kandahar Hijack' features a cast that includes
Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, Pankaj Kapur,
Arvind Swamy, and Naseeruddin Shah. This project is currently under controversies as netizens demand to boycott it due to distortion of facts. Two Muslim terrorists have been given Hindu names like 'Bhola' and 'Shanker' and that has hurt religious sentiments.
