Like all things, fine in moderation. Nothing wrong with friendly wagers among friends or spending some money playing casino games. The gambling industry doesn’t exist off the back of these players though and that’s the problem with it

TORFdot0@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•So Lemmy, what are your thoughts on Mixtape?English41·4 days agoI’m not familiar with modern games really but the launch trailer had basically zero footage that looked like it could be considered gameplay other than a Wii sports minigame.
If it’s trying to be a movie, it looks like shitty movie. If it’s trying to be a game, it looks like a shitty game. I will likely never play it so I can’t imagine being upset about it.
Bad movies and bad games come out all the time, I just don’t partake. If someone thinks it’s their game of the year, we probably have different tastes and I’ll just ignore their opinion.

The switch 2 has already outdone the WiiU (not much) but I’d be shocked if it sells even close to half as well as the switch 1 did. I’d guess it’d be more around n64 numbers.
TORFdot0@lemmy.worldto Nintendo@lemmy.world•Shigeru Miyamoto Considers The Legend of Zelda II To Be "Sort Of A Failure"English6·10 days agoI don’t see it as a failure at all. I really like the action side scrolling gameplay and early RPG elements. It’s a nice departure from the style of the first game and link to the past. Especially compared to other games on the NES, it holds up. My only gripe with it is that it took me forever to find the hidden village because there wasn’t really any good hints. Definitely seemed designed to sell Nintendo power. LoZ was the same way though

I have used both. We did Sentinel at my organization for traditional SIEM. It was mostly for convenience since we were already ingesting Event Logs into Log Analytics. When I used it, it was mostly just traditional playbooks and rule based detections. It worked as well as any other SIEM at the time, required a lot of maintaining to keep up with latest TI. It was fine.
We ended up moving to Darktrace. It’s not really a replacement for SIEM although we more or less use it as such. It is more about ML and pattern based detections and so it requires less maintenance to configure playbooks and for it to take autonomous action. It also has an agent on each endpoints and has API integrations for it to be able to respond more holistically to detections and threats.
I would rave about both, they serve similar but distinct purposes. I’m glad to have both. If I could only have one, I would not be able to imagine our network without DarkTrace.

This is a shitpost but some people are taking it a bit too seriously, a family group chat doesn’t have to risk profile to require a level of “OpSec” that would require everyone to be on e2ee messaging. Don’t isolate yourself from your family over MMS group chat messages, maybe just don’t share your IBS flare ups in it if you are that concerned.
TORFdot0@lemmy.worldto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•The moral priorities of the average AmericanEnglish4·15 days agoDo you think cats are immoral? They will most certainly suffer if not die if fed a vegetarian diet.
It’s not a stretch for someone to think animals eating animals is not a moral issue and it’s not a moral issue for humans, another animal, to do the same.
If you hold humas to a higher standard then I applaud you for your conviction but I think this survey shows we aren’t really above animals
TORFdot0@lemmy.worldto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•The moral priorities of the average AmericanEnglish4·15 days agoI don’t even know if that’s true in the same way that it is for a drug user. Making drugs legal and safe is a good for society. Making gambling legal has made society worse in terms of bankruptcies and financial stress.
Gambling addicts definitely need support but allowing problem gamblers to be taken advantage of is something that legal gambling does that legal recreational drug use does not
TORFdot0@lemmy.worldto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•The moral priorities of the average AmericanEnglish8·15 days agoGambling in the micro is not morally wrong. Games between friends with stakes and the like is perfectly fine.
Running a casino or sportsbook is almost certainly exploiting problem gamblers in a way that is unequivocally morally wrong.
