Wait is the simulation theory just another version of plato’s cave?

I guess 10 minutes?
Or even worse these things where I almost don’t fit with a stroller and which are dangerous for kids because they try to bike through without dismounting:
Luckily my town removed all of them recently.
Yeah, I get it. Chimerism is scary, but not DNA
That’s why I don’t like it. I feel being manipulated if someone says my name all the time.
Why does this make DNA scary? I think it’s awesome that our understanding of DNA makes us able to unravel things like this.

Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.

I mean the headline literally says the opposite. So I would blame the journalists here.
But yeah, telling that there was a woman who was evacuated without symptoms but still tested positive later and who was also very anxious isn’t really worth a news story.

They simply take water out of the public water system and it then either evaporates or goes into the waste system like in every normal household.
Of course it COULD be used to heat houses or fed back into the system but that’s not what’s happening simply because it would be too complicated.
It’s a bit like saying you are not wasting water when letting your tap running without doing anything because it would still be clean and could be used again.
saimen@feddit.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something that most people normally do that you find weird?21·11 days agoSorry, but to me this sounds the same like a suicidal person saying, they don’t get why people want to live.
Of course everyone can do what they want. But I can totally understand someone who doesn’t want kids or who wants to off themself. The not being able to understand people wanting to have children part seems a bit pathological to me.
saimen@feddit.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something that most people normally do that you find weird?2·11 days agoI see it from the complete opposite direction. What is wrong with the world and humans is all the generational trauma and how we used to raise and treat children.
So in my view the only way to heal the world is through children which are raised from parents who ideally have already worked on their trauma to be strong and caring individuals and learned to handle their emotions without supressing them.
Of course the political system is important too, but the thing is you need strong individuals first. If you have a population of people which have had their individuality “beaten out” and are slaves to their emotions they will inevitable seek comfort in groups and leaders leading to authorian regimes and fascism.
You can’t change adults much. Every change has to come through our children.

Sommehow reminds me of this story:
“A senior monk and a junior monk were traveling together. At one point, they came to a river with a strong current. As the monks were preparing to cross the river, they saw a very young and beautiful woman also attempting to cross. The young woman asked if they could help her cross to the other side. The two monks glanced at one another because they had taken vows not to touch a woman. Then, without a word, the older monk picked up the woman, carried her across the river, placed her gently on the other side, and carried on his journey. The younger monk couldn’t believe what had just happened. After rejoining his companion, he was speechless, and an hour passed without a word between them. Two more hours passed, then three, finally the younger monk could contain himself any longer, and blurted out “As monks, we are not permitted a woman, how could you then carry that woman on your shoulders?” The older monk looked at him and replied, “Brother, I set her down on the other side of the river, why are you still carrying her?”
saimen@feddit.orgto Science Memes@mander.xyz•Literally exactly how it works, too.English5·12 days agoExactly, I like to imagine it with our senses.
In order to see something lightwaves had to have interacted with the objects we see.
In order to hear something objects had to have moved or interacted in a way to produce changes of air pressure.
In order to smell something an object had to have “lost” some of its molecules into the air.
Well, and touching and tasting are kinda obvious, your body has to directly interact with an object.
To play devil’s advocate they would reply that without the owner there would be 0 salary for each worker.
And you have to be careful. CEO and owner most of the time isn’t the same person.
