White balance is when a filter is put in front of the camera in order to make colours look as realistic as possible and so that the photograph can cope with the different types of light. Degrees Kelvin is a type of measurement for temperature. The higher the degrees Kelvin, the more red the lighting, the lower the degrees Kelvin, the more blue the lighting. A setting of shade may be used on a high kelvin reading whereas a setting like tungsten may be used on a lower kelvin reading.
