Planning an orchard with an apple tree orchard and fruit orchard in hopes of having a food forest

Shortly after I first moved here, I established a small scale apple tree orchard and slowly included other perennial vegetable and fruit crops. It was looking good and then it wasn't. A number of factors led to the demise of the apple tree orchard and so now I find myself planning an orchard that will be more of a self sustaining food forest rather than just an apple tree orchard.
