Most divers in Hawaii head to Kona where inward currents and plankton-rich waters attract megafauna in great numbers. There’s migrating whale sharks and humpback whales as well as a nightly symphony of manta rays. Sea turtles and sharks make an appearance, too. Furthermore, Hawaii features a wide variety of underwater environments, such as drift dives past life-filled walls, rocky coral beds, pinnacles and sandy bottoms. There are also a few wrecks in varying degrees of disrepair. While you can dive from Hawaii’s many resorts, you’ll need a liveaboard to access the far southern sites. Most itineraries last 7 nights, and the best time to dive in Hawaii is from April to October.
