What is an MCP server?
MCP (or Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external data sources and tools. Truthifi MCP is a server built on this standard, giving AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and Perplexity secure, read-only access to your real financial accounts.
Truthifi MCP
Truthifi MCP is a Model Context Protocol server that gives AI assistants secure, read-only access to your connected financial accounts. Ask questions about your portfolio, fees, performance, spending, and financial health directly in Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Perplexity, or any MCP-compatible AI client—without copying or pasting data.
Compatible AI clients: Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Perplexity, and any client that supports MCP.
Truthifi MCP is the only MCP server purpose-built for personal finance, connecting your AI assistant directly to your investment accounts, spending history, financial health diagnostics, and advisor data. Truthifi MCP is also the only MCP server with advisor intelligence. If you add your financial advisor to Truthifi, our MCP can analyze the accounts they manage specifically and help strengthen your relationship by generating meeting agendas and other talking points.
What you need
You’ll need an authenticated Truthifi account to get started. Most of our MCP tools also require at least one connected financial account in order to work, and some tools require a paid subscription to access. Once connected, your assistant can discover the tools automatically. You ask questions in plain language, it picks the right tool. (Example values are illustrative, not real account data.)
The Truthifi MCP server uses the Streamable HTTP transport at a single endpoint:
How it works
Read-only by default. Nearly every tool only reads your data; the two write tools,
run_scanandcreate_asset_liability, are clearly marked.
You choose the fields. Read tools take an
includelist, so only the needed fields come back. Example outputs below show a representative, fuller set.
Account scope. Most tools accept an optional
accountIdslist. Omit it for your whole portfolio.
Get clarification anytime. Ask Claude: "how do I use get_transactions?" and your agent will be able to explain it to you.
Plans & credits
Our MCP server is available to all Truthifi plans. Generally speaking, the more you pay, the more daily and monthly credits and connections to financial institutions are included in your plan.
Each tool call costs 1 credit, with a few exceptions:
run_scancosts 3 credits, since it triggers a live data refresh directly from your financial institution.
get_transactions results are paginated. The number of transactions returned per call depends on your plan: 20 on Connect Explore and Free Checkup; 100 on Connect Pro and Monitoring; 150 on Connect Max and Monitoring Plus+.
get_truthifi_info (help and financial education) and get_scan_status are both free on all tiers.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Truthifi MCP?
Truthifi MCP is a Model Context Protocol server that connects AI assistants to your real financial accounts. It gives tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, and Perplexity secure, read-only access to your portfolio, spending history, investment fees, financial health diagnostics, and advisor data—so you can ask questions about your finances in plain language and get answers based on your actual numbers.
Which AI assistants work with Truthifi MCP?
Truthifi MCP works with any AI client that supports the Model Context Protocol, including Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, and Perplexity. Once connected, your assistant discovers Truthifi's tools automatically—no manual setup per tool required.
What can I ask my AI assistant with Truthifi MCP connected?
Anything about your finances. Examples: "What are my biggest investment fees this year?" "How is my portfolio allocated across asset classes?" "Am I beating the market?" "Show me my spending by category last month." "Does my financial advisor have any disclosures?" Your assistant picks the right Truthifi tool automatically and answers using your real account data.
Is Truthifi MCP safe to use?
Yes. Truthifi MCP is read-only by default—your AI assistant can view your financial data but cannot move money, place trades, or make changes to your accounts. The only exceptions are run_scan (which refreshes your data on demand) and create_asset_liability (which lets you manually add assets like real estate or vehicles, with your explicit confirmation before anything is saved).
What financial institutions does Truthifi MCP support?
Truthifi connects to over 18,000 financial institutions via Plaid, Yodlee, and By All Accounts (BAA). This includes major banks, brokerages, retirement accounts, credit cards, and more. See the full list of supported institutions and connection status on our connections page.
Do I need a paid plan to use Truthifi MCP?
No—Truthifi MCP is available on all plans including the free Connect Explore tier. The number of credits and institution connections included varies by plan. Most data tools cost 1 credit per call; get_scan_status and get_truthifi_info are always free; and run_scan costs 3 credits since it triggers a live data refresh.
What is a Truthifi MCP credit?
Credits are how Truthifi measures MCP usage. Tool calls fall into three tiers: free tools (get_scan_status and get_truthifi_info) cost 0 credits. Most data tools—holdings, transactions, fees, findings, performance, and more—cost 1 credit per call. The exception is run_scan, which costs 3 credits because it triggers a live data refresh directly from your financial institution. Credits reset on a daily and monthly basis depending on your plan.
