Awaiting Sunrise

Free Boat Sea photo and picture

 Long after a dramatic sunset
restless lying in my bed
tomorrow planned in my head
contemplating the day’s regrets

Tonight, sleep is eluding me
yearning to drift into a dream or two
darkness haunts with thoughts of you
only sunrise will set me free

Crossroad of a Dream

Standing at the crossroad of a dream
sojourning into the darkness alone
searching for signs silver moonbeams
starlight glistens in the vast unknown

thinking about all the places I've been
time seems to disappear into the night
thankful for the gleeful song of the wren
thistles line the cyclic path on the right

here I am, will you walk with me awhile
hoping to find the road to reconciliation
how far must I travel to see your smile
hickory trees have a strong foundation

entering the intersection of here and now
everything changes in a blink of an eye
exhausted resting under willow boughs
emotional I weep, tis love I cannot deny

When Tomorrow Comes

Separation by Edvard Munch 1896

When tomorrow comes
I will wipe these tears of regret
pieces of us are now just crumbs
in love’s symphony one can’t forget

When tomorrow comes
I will stand at the crosswalk of change
inhale the day deeply into my lungs
this melody in my head, I must rearrange

When tomorrow comes
will the songs of us gently fade
composing ballads in a new tongue
for all that was lost, a final serenade

When tomorrow comes
I will wipe these tears of regret
tilt my face toward the rising sun
moving forward, my heart on reset

When tomorrow comes
When tomorrow comes
When tomorrow comes

No Time For Pretty

Free Spikes Thorny Rose photo and picture
Courtesy of Pixabay

This is no time to make things pretty
Yet, we need pretty more than ever

In the rubble of natural disasters
there is a need to find mementos

A family photo, a hidden treasure
something the heart can cling to

After the ominous dark clouds pass
there is beauty in a clear blue sky

This is no time to make things pretty
Yet, we need pretty more than ever

How long can we live in this mess
the beds unmade, the roofless homes

How long can we travel on this earth
with destroyed roads and waterways

Who can repair the damage done
roses are pretty, but the thorns
are a cautious warning....

Spring's Quietness

Free Lilies Of The Valley Spring Flowers photo and picture

The sounds of spring are quiet
found in unexpected places
in the lily of the valley
where soft white bells
are never heard chiming

The sounds of spring are quiet
under May’s flowering full moon
reflecting on blooms of change
drifting into colorful dreams

Beyond the Stars

Tamsin awakens in a frenzy of emotions. Her heart beating rapidly recalling her dream.  In a champagne sky her thoughts quickly drift to Aden.  Remembering his smell, the warmth of his touch. His eyes warm pools she longed to swim in. Yes, she was under a magical spell and she hopes it will never be broken. Knowing in her heart that he is now part of the dragon didn't alter her feelings.  In the silence before dawn her secret confession. Her love for him transcends all boundaries. Sighing, in a vast heaven she whispers "I love you'.

Suddenly, a jolt of cosmic energy circulates her chamber. A change in the vibrating frequencies of light that guides the Dragon through holes of darkness.  She reaches out to Aden knowing he will feel her distress. Jumping out of bed she must warn Aden of impending danger. A battle erupts in a distant world.  Her mind whirls in this new vision of a blue planet where the sky river runs. The inhabitants are a gentle breed who guard the mountain ranges from intruders.

It's imperative that she speak with Aden.  There is an urgent need to change their course and find this world. They had been given the assignment to test water and surface samples in new locations ensuring the lands were livable terrains. Surely, this could wait as the mountain people have sent out an SOS for help and she had received their pleas for assistance.

Aden was restless as he kept a watchful eye over the dragon,  he was piloting. His crew depended on his expertise to guide them through uncharted skies. He had noticed Tamsin was a bit on edge before she retired last evening.  He felt a strange force of energy and knew something was amiss. He heard Tamsin's whispers and his heart ached, he knew he would do whatever she asked of him.  In silence he waited for her to approach the bridge.

"Good morning, Lieutenant” Aden, gently spoke

"Good morning, Sir, I wish permission to speak to you about a new situation that requires our immediate attention”.

A moment of silence as he pondered what would be coming and his heart already felt heavy.

"Permission granted"

"Sir, early this morning I received a distress signal from a planet on the outer rim of the galaxy.  It seems, mountain dwellers are being attacked by some sort of evil force.  They request assistance as they are guardians of a sacred sky river."

Aden studied Tamsin's face and could see her concern in the slight quiver of her lipsHe wondered how they would find this planet and what would be the magnitude of this encounter.  His mind quickly contemplated different scenarios.  He would need to know all the details of her dream.

"Do you know their coordinates, are you able to track them using your internal antenna”, Aden questioned.

"Sir, I am sure with a bit of research, I can determine their whereabouts “, she quickly took her seat and began touching the control panel, plotting their coordinates with those she picked up in the message.

Aden felt a surge of energy the moment she touched the control panel. It brought a smile to his face, he felt her warm fingers lingering on the keyboard, he could feel her heartbeat.  He worried about this

mission, what real danger lurked in the darkness.  He would not jeopardize the safety of his crew but he knew Tamsin would find a way to follow her dream.

Tamsin has been waiting most of her life

for the portal of her dreams to open

on fluttering wings, longing to take flight

renewal in a land barren and broken

Sunrise, moon-rise, clouds that hide

a world of adventure at her fingertips

searching for a remote mountainside
navigator of a mystical dragon ship

Can Aden and Tamsin save the sacred sky river?

Will Tamsin's one wish be granted?

Can dreams alter their destiny?

Apple Blossom Rapture

Free Apple Blossom Blossom photo and picture

Today, I wandered
amongst apple blossoms
petals of soft pink and white
listening to the songs of robins
sweet fragrance, my senses delight

tangled branches flowering limbs
breathtaking beauty in view
here the seeds of fruit begin
emergence of spring renewed
today, I pondered

Brokenness

Free Beads Neck Lace photo and picture

Sobbing the day the beaded necklace broke
tiny colorful pieces held together by a thread
sitting in my car under a giant old oak
a forewarning a deep feeling of dread

I knew in that moment things had changed
tearfully, gathering the small precious beads
perhaps, some re-threading and re-arranging
pondering where this new road would lead

black crows perched above on a tree limb
caw, caw, cawing as if mocking my sadness
this was a sign that trouble would soon begin
and my world would unravel in madness

Sobbing the day the beaded necklace broke
severing all that I held dear to my heart
cupped in my hand colorful beads of hope
mending what remained, a new work of art
