Your worth is not measured by your waist

I am so happy to be guest posting for Blank Page Muse Stamps.  When I saw these images from A Vintage Girl  I could not wait to create.

I started by stamping four of the large tape measures in Jet Black Archival ink.  I cut them out and using the edge of my scissors I tattered the edges.

Then I inked them and let them dry.  Once dry I took a tiny bit of metal tape and made edges just like you find on real cloth measuring tapes.

For the main panel I stamped the vintage corset in the center, again using jet black archival.  I also stamped a second corset and cut it out to use for a mask.  This was just done on scrap paper.  Always save your masks, you never know when you might use them again. I just pop them in the bag with the stamp.
I inked the corset using a pale pink and then covered it with the mask to ink the rest of the background.
The background was inked and then stamped using the small crackle stamp.

To make her sash I used the rolled measuring tape from the Timeless Measurements set.  I used jet black archival on seam binding.  I trimmed the image and colored the seam binding using Dina Wakley scribble sticks.  

I lined up the image on the corset and glued it in place. 

Before I finished up the main panel I flicked on some black and copper paint.  I lined the measuring tapes up along the edge of the card and glued them down. I added the sentiment and edged the words using a black gel pen.  

 I added some small clusters of flowers to the corners and a tiny flower on the sash.  I know the corner flowers covered the metal edges quite a bit, but I really like how they look. The whole panel was mounted on a black card.  

I hope you like this card as much as I liked creating it.

We're going shopping!

The theme this week is Transport It.

When I saw these ladies in the latest Tim Holtz Found Relatives pack I knew I had to use them and I knew it had to be snarky.  This week's challenge seemed to work out perfectly for them.  These ladies look ready to transport a ton of merchandise and fun!
I started by taking a number 8 tag and covering it with a bit of Chipped Sapphire and Broken China Distress Spray.  I didn't want too fine of a mist, I really wanted blotches of color so I took the topper off and dripped some of the Spray onto my craft mat.  I sprayed it with a bit of water and then dabbed the tag in the color.  I dried between layers until I got a color I was happy with.  To fill in the gaps I used Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink and my blending tool.
I used Tim Holtz's Cityscape stamp set to cover the background.  I used bits and pieces from each city and alternated my archival ink colors.

Using a glue stick, I lightly skimmed over areas of the tag and used Rangers Foil sheets to give a hint of gold shimmer.  Random scribbles of gel pen complete the background. The edge of the tag has a bit of Gold paint pen on it .

A bit of gold metallic kraft core paper is behind the photo and I sanded the paper before gluing the ladies down.
I used a teeny bit of the Tim Holtz Classic kraft stock and stamped on the kraft side.  I used the Ink Road Mean Girls set and stamped in Black Soot Archival ink.  This was mounted on a bit more of the Classic Kraft in Dusty Concord just for a pop of color.

I attached the sentiment using a mini Tim Holtz paperclip.  The teeny plane charm from the Tim Souvenir charm set is tucked under the sentiment and glued down.
A bit of vintage seam binding was threaded through the hole at the top of the tag and a wire pin hold a variety of charms.

There it is! A quick and simple tag for your snarky friends.  I hope this project transported you to your creative space and you are ready to join the challenge!

Wear it again tomorrow

Hi Guys,
I'm up on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog today.

I've been in a bit of a snarky mood lately and when I saw this lady I knew she needed to be used for a project.

I started by taking my Laurel Frame and covering it with a layer of gesso using a foam brush.  Using the same brush I added some Dina Wakley Paint.  I didn't clean the brush between uses so there was still gesso in there creating different shades of blue.

Using the script stamp from the Tim Holtz Entomology Set(CMS328). I stamped across the frame in Hickory Smoke Oxide Ink.  I sealed the ink using Micro Glaze.

This photo was cut to fit inside the frame.

For the back panel I used a 5x7 canvas board and loosely painted it using the paints pictured.  I added some stamped bits from the Time Holtz Mini Media Marks(CMS364).  These were done with Archival Ink in Black Soot and Hydrangea.  Before I finished my project I added in a bit of Victorian Velvet Distress Paint to pick up the pink you see in the background piece.  

To mount the photo I used a piece of humble cardboard.  Peel parts of the top layer to expose the corrugate and then cover with gesso.  I did a couple thin layers to cover all of the brown.  I added some collage paper to the bits that still had the full cardboard using collage medium.  To color the cardboard and collage paper I used Distress Crayon(Victorian Velvet, Cracked Pistachio, Worn Lipstick, and Gathered Twigs) and water to give it a dreamy hazy look. Pearl details were added to the frame and the snarky sentiment. 

To complete the piece I painted a set of  Mini Petal Corners using Dina Wakley Ancient Paint.  

 A couple close ups of the finished details. I ended up going back with Jet Black Archival ink and restamping the script on the frame.  I added a bit of DIstress Crayon in Gathered Twigs to dinge it up.  There is a teeny bit of the Dina paint in Ancient on there too.

I love the grungy look the cardboard gives.

Good tidings ATC journal

Hi Everyone,
I have a really fun project to share with you that I created for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.

This ATC ticket journal is the cutest thing ever.  

I made one of these a few months back.  You can check out that post here.  When I was creating my spring themed journal all I could think about was how cute this would look done up for Christmas.

The basic steps are the same as the Spring journal.  Prep the journal by painting it.  Using collage medium, add Tim Holtz Christmas Collage paper randomly to each page.  

Once all of your collage paper is down add stamps using a permanent ink. I mostly used the Tim Holtz Holiday Postmark Set(but if you look closely you will spy stamps from about 5 other sets).  You can also use paint on your rubber stamps, just make sure you clean them off right away.  Once it's dried it will be on there forever.  The funky green branches you see here are stamped.  Stamp in a green paint and then add red berries with the end of a paint brush.  

 These are all of the inside pages.  I put a photo on every other page and the opposite sides are just fun piles of ephemera.

Most of the photos got a little something to dress them up for the holidays.  

These little anter brads just crack me up.  I used some of the Tim Holtz holiday snippets, a photobooth photo, and a chit chat sticker here too. 

This guy's hat and scarf are from the Christmas Shape Set.  Both pieces were embossed using Emerald Creek powders.  The hat is Mercury Rising and the scarf is the Spiced Candy and then there is a layer of Vintage Beeswax.    

Her wintery broach is from the Snowflake shape set and covered with Distress Glitter.

Her santa hat is a brad.

The peppermints are made out of perler beads. 

I love the vintage Christmas seal on this page.  

The tree is from the Christmas Shape Set.  It was heat embossed using Charred Gold from Emerald Creek.    

I did my cover last.  The ribbon is glued under the frame and it has an eyelet in it.  The buckle is attached with a brad that you can see on the backside of the page.  The chip quote is embossed with Charred Gold on the edges 

The center of the poinsettia is the brad that is holding on the buckle.    

The buckle was a great way to hold this guy together since it's pretty chunky.

Mini Album Makers Challenge

Quiet, but not blind

Hi Everyone,

I have a great technique filled card for you today.  Let's jump right in!

Using Distress Heavy stock blend together several shades of Distress Ink (Scattered Straw, Squeezed Lemonade, Fossilized Amber, and Wild Honey).  Spritz with water and dry completely.  Take a tiny bit of Distress Micro Glaze cover most of the background.  Stamp the Floral Lace stamp using Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink and spritz with water.  Using the micro glaze on most of the background keeps the top layer of ink from blending into the background.  It also keeps some of the intricate stamp pattern, but not all of it.  The look is wonderfully aged and tattered.

Take clear texture paste and the Latticework stencil to the background.  Don't worry about it looking perfect.  Imperfect looks better! Once the paste is dry use the Forest Moss Distress crayon to scribble over the paste.  Smudge the crayon using your finger and the pattern pops up adding another layer to your background.

Stamp the Large Bird Man on Watercolor cardstock.  Color him in using a waterbrush and Distress Markers.  Once he is dry fussy cut the image.

To finish the background stamp your two sentiments( Oh darling  and I was quiet, but I was not blind) using archival ink.  Back them with black cardstock and play with placement on your background.  Once you're happy with placement you can glue them down.

Run plain black cardstock through your die cutting machine using the Botanical 3d embossing folder.  Take a Distress Crayon in Tarnished Brass and highlight the raised areas.  The slight gilded effect is so gorgeous.  Adhere this piece right under the focal background piece you created.

All that's left to do is layer up your background.  On this card the black is attached to a distressed piece of gold cardstock.  The gold is mounted to a sage green card.  A bit of burgundy ribbon was the finishing touch.
