The Nitobe Memorial Garden is a small slice of Japan on the edge of Vancouver. I saw it on the UBC map one lunchtime so went to explore. I'm so glad I did.

Nitobe Memorial Garden located at UBC Vancouver BC, and is considered to be the one of the most authentic Japanese gardens in North America and among the top five Japanese gardens outside of Japan. I was a student at UBC and lived near the garden in the Men's residences (very close proximity to the garden) in late 1950's when the garden was created and I came here to talk to the gardeners.
