All it takes is 2 pieces of wood to make a shelf on top of your wall panelling:
1. Architrave cut to the length of your panelled wall
2. The same material you used for your wall panel strips for the shelf

I used @skirting4u Kensington mdf architrave to make the lip for the shelf to sit on, and their 80mm wide mdf wall panelling for the shelf itself.

You can either screw your architrave onto the wall above your wall panelling or on top of the upper horizontal strip (what I did) depending on how you want it to look and how deep you want the support for your shelf to be.
