Women in the 1930’s didn’t wear pants too often, but for summer days at the beach or when playing a sport, pants were not only acceptable but highly fashionable! For daywear, a pair of white or navy blue high waisted wide leg pants and trousers with a nautical or sailor look were trendy.

1930s overalls came in bright summer colors. Most had button straps with a sweetheart or square neckline. Denim overalls were for workwear in the home garden or farm. They could be worn over a short sleeve shirt, blouse or bare skin.
1930s jumpsuits were part of the beach pajama craze. Extra wide bottoms with a halter top was common in the 30s. There were also short sleeve jumpsuit or culottes jumpsuits for casual playwear. More about vintage overalls and jumpsuits.
Women’s 1930s shorts looked like skorts or pleated skirts. They were extra popular with tennis players. The sailor button front shorts came in style towards the end of the 1930s. Longer Coulotte length pants were the prefer shorts of the 1930s.
