Mordheim Goblins

I think that I will be putting this project aside for now as no actual gaming has eventuated. I have another Gang planned which is Human that I will do when I find I want to do something different. I have too many other things I need to paint.

I bought these Goblins off Ebay but found that one of the Fanatics was missing his head. I then had to buy some Blue Stuff and attempted to copy the other one. The first attempt using Green Stuff did not turn out very nice but the second attempt using Selleys Knead-It worked out well enough. Including the flattened nose as I had made the mould too shallow.

I have made no attempt to name any of them as I am fast losing interest in this. The Troll gave me a few issues. I wanted to try a blue skin tone and at first did not like it so put it aside for a few days. I then took another look in daylight and quite liked it, and then added some white veins. The eyes are not right as is also the Squigs, so I may revisit these after I have had time to think about it.

The Waaagh-Black Orks

Looks like I picked the wrong Team to paint as it is the morning after the England verses All Black game. I named these figures after past and present All Blacks and as the Leadership are Black Orks the name just suggested itself. I don't normally paint names on bases but really need to on these so to keep track of who is who in a game.  The writing sucks but they looked worse than before painting the red background. The figures are mainly from the old Warhammer plastic ranges with the exception of the Banner Boy who is a Skulls promotion figure which I had no use for. The other two figures I bought second hand. Grimsaw Ironhide was bought online as already painted and needed to be stripped while Borgut Facebeater was new in the packaging. The Shaman was converted from various components. His staff looks a little unbalanced but since I had drilled and fitted a brass rod through the entire length of the shaft its too late now to go back and correct it. The colours of the trousers and skirts are based on which Super Franchise the players come from.

Mordheim Undead Gang

This Gang was quickly thrown together using mainly painted figures that have been painted for years. The Zombies were painted as I wanted to try out a few schemes for Zombie flesh before I tackled painting my Modern Zombie figures. It was also a group I'd always wanted to paint/convert anyway. They just needed a few touch ups and a few different washes. The Ghouls were done to flesh out my Modern Zombie horde quickly with a basic flesh tone, they only needed a wash for this Gang. The Dregs were painted as Zombies and only needed a head swap and a touch up. The Dire Wolf was part of my Frostgrave project and just needed the snow on the base Covering up. The Vampire was brand new in box which I had bought new in the shop decades ago. The only piece which I had to buy was the Necromancer which fitted in well with the other figures.

The theme for this was a little off the Wall. Unless you know much about New Zealand Politics it will go over your head. I had played around with a few ideas but coming up with suitable names to write down on the roster sheet was not happening until I came up with this theme. This is meant as a satirical take on our Government and not an attack.

First up the leader of the Gang Vampinda named after our PM.
I really struggled to photograph the depth of the red on her dress.

Next up her Deputy, Winston. I really tried to come up with a clever name for him, but Winston just fits so well. He is the Darling of the retired sector of our Nation.

The pair together.

The Dregs (of Society) rent a Mob.
Hugh Givsa, Lilly the Pink, and Yorrick.
I followed a Woman down the road the other day who had Slagatha written on her top so I may rename Lilly that in future.

The Zombie Horde is a Coalition of the Undead,
Basically the Coalition of the ruling parties. Greens, Labour and NZ First.

The Dire Wolf is called Grey Power after the retired communities power base.

The Ghouls are called "The Union of the Ghouls" no doubt after the Flesh of the fat ruling classes.

I am thinking of doing the opposition as a Midheimer Gang as they are the rich powerful ones?
Not sure I want to go spending money on them so see what I have in my pile first.

Wizards Tower II

I have finished my Wizards Tower. It needed a base so I dug out a cardboard Cake base which is sealed on one side and cut it to size. (this had been sitting in my Games room for years awaiting such an occasion). However it had a slight warp in it which only got worse and as the cut edges spread out I decided to use it as a template to cut out a 3mm MDF base. This I had bought in A3 size from the Art shop for a few dollars. When cutting it down I remembered someone on a Forum saying they make their terrain to fit into A4 Paper boxes for storage. I then made sure that this new base was smaller than A4 and grabbed a spare box from work. I also finished the Chimney and painted two Candles and a Torch. I really wanted to add more details inside which I have from Reaper but that would reduce the playing area too much.

Just smaller than a A4 sheet.
Still a few annoying white bits showing through.
Small space to fit a Statue on.

One of the things that had been holding me up on the Berlin board was making debris piles. I grabbed some cut off Foam-core and made a couple of piles which were then covered in filler and spare bits. These came up quite good but I think I will add some Sculptaclay recommended by Lukes APS. I will still use the Foam-core to save some weight though. I think I still need to work on my method of adding grass etc as it looks a bit neat like some gardener had laid it out.

I had some fun this afternoon seeing what other settings the building could be used for.

The terrain that I have for Mordheim at the moment. I have three more of the 4Ground buildings to make up and I need to remove or cover the snow from the GW ruins. I also have a bridge hidden away in a box somewhere for the river crossing.

Wizards Tower

I think that it was the Angry Piper who suggested a Terrain theme this month for Bloggers on TMP, so as I felt like a change from my Zulu project and dug this building out for another go.

When we planned to start a Frostgrave Campaign I realised that I had no suitable terrain so started to build a damaged Wizards Tower. Now when we lost interest in this the Tower laid in the spare bedroom forgotten for several years. Recently another friend mentioned that he and his son had started to play Mordheim again and wanted to start a league. No action yet on that front but I have several gangs underway and got the Tower out to finish. This time I am not going to use any snow or other winter themed effects other than it looking a bit bleak.

The construction is Foamcore with a thin layer of Foam sheet glued over the outer face. I picked up a tip from watching Black Magic Craft. If you mix Black paint with Craft PVA glue and coat the Foamcore and card everything it is very hard once it dries out and is base coated in one step. Be careful to coat both sides to minimise warpage though. (The seperate Tower section warped a couple of mm so I had to trim the other wall to fit.) The Windows are from GW. The roof is a card base with wooden structure laid out and then covered with Charlie Foxtrot roofing tiles left over from my Berlin Buildings. (Not forgotten about as I am still trying solve some issues with)

The condition that I recovered the Tower in with a couple of minor additions before I realised that I should document this. The Crenelations are left over from my Robin Hood project and is a Zvezda product.

I have added some details with thin foam and built steps from Green foam.
I cut the floor detail and a Hexagon into the foam hoping that it would show when I painted it up.

I used wooden craft sticks for the outer structure.

I have done just about all the painting but have some parts that need constructing, which I have put aside until later like a front step; the chimney stack, torches and possibly an alter step. Of course it will probably need a base but am undecided about what shape etc.

Not made by Sarissa Precision, I just found the pack an extremely handy way of keeping everything flat and square.

I have been searching for some images about summoning circles but have not found any images which I can add to the Pentagon. I'm also worried about invoking some evil if I do successfully do so.
Haha.
