Common Questions

How does WakaTime detect AI-assisted coding?
We have a desktop app, vscode extension, and other tools that collect AI usage metrics on each developer’s machine and surface those metrics in your team dashboard.
How is developer privacy protected?
We build for the individual developer first. For example, developers can keep all their projects hidden by default and only show certain projects to the team. Team dashboards can be set fully anonymous, where only aggregate time is shown without attributing time to any individual. We never access your source code. WakaTime plugins only send the file paths opened in developer IDEs, not the contents of the files.
Can team dashboards be exported?
Yes, you can download your team dashboards as CSV or use our JSON API.
What counts as a team seat?
For Team and Business plans, a paid seat is needed for each account displayed on a dashboard. Each developer only needs one paid seat, no matter how many dashboards they’ve joined. You don’t need paid seats for passive view-only accounts. See pricing plans for more details.
