The places dataset behind waybook.cc/places.
Waybook’s place directory is a derivative database of OpenStreetMap (selection, coordinates, categories), enriched with openly licensed material from Wikipedia, Wikivoyage and Wikimedia Commons. As ODbL share-alike requires — and in the same spirit — the published dataset is available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.
Download the dataset (JSON) — name, coordinates, category and canonical page URL for every published place. Regenerated daily. Attribution: “© OpenStreetMap contributors, © Waybook”.
Story texts on place pages are adaptations of Wikipedia/Wikivoyage material and are marked CC BY-SA 4.0 per page; photos are Wikimedia Commons, credited per image with their own licences. Those are not part of the ODbL dump.
