THE ASIAN HERITAGE MONTH ACT (COMMEMORATION OF DAYS, WEEKS AND MONTHS ACT AMENDED)

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows:
1 The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act is amended by this Act.
2 The following is added after Schedule 15:
SCHEDULE 15.0.1
ASIAN HERITAGE MONTH
WHEREAS the history of people of Asian origin in Manitoba stretches back to the 1800s;
AND WHEREAS people from all regions of Asia have settled in cities, towns and rural areas across Manitoba;
AND WHEREAS Asian Canadians have enhanced the diversity of Manitoba by introducing a wide and rich variety of languages, cultures and traditions to the province;
AND WHEREAS Asian Canadians have become an integral part of the social, cultural, economic and political fabric of Manitoba;
AND WHEREAS Asian Canadians have made significant contributions to the growth, development and prosperity of Manitoba;
AND WHEREAS the Senate of Canada designated May as Asian Heritage Month in 2001;
AND WHEREAS Asian Heritage Month will provide an opportunity to learn about and celebrate the long and rich history of Asian Canadians in Manitoba and their achievements and contributions to the province;
THEREFORE the following is proclaimed throughout Manitoba:
1 In each year, the month of May is to be known as Asian Heritage Month.
3 This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
Explanatory Note The Commemoration of Days, Weeks and Months Act is amended to proclaim the month of May of each year as Asian Heritage Month. |
