Angels of Vengeance

The Angels of Vengeance are a successor Chapter of the Dark Angels created during the Second Founding.[7a]

Overview
Regarded as some of the most stubborn fighters of the Imperium of Man, these Space Marines have risked the future of their chapter many times by throwing themselves into the most dire situations and refusing to retreat, even when their chances of survival were almost nil.[2] They are even less well known than those of the other Unforgiven Chapters, for they shun fame and celebrations and instead concentrate on their duties and mission. The Angels of Vengeance embody the stubborn devotion of the original Dark Angels Legion above all else, with this trait bordering on single-mindedness. It is also said that the Angels of Vengeance are unrelenting in their persecution of foes to the Imperium, maintaining not only an extreme hatred of Xenos but an even more fanatical disdain for traitors and Chaos Space Marines.[7b]
History
The Chapter's future has been put in jeopardy several times, beginning with their depletion in the Forgotten Wars. More recently, in the aftermath of the Siege of Apolis their losses were so heavy that the Chapter was forced to spend a century rebuilding itself before it could be deployed for battle once more.[4a]
The Chapter, like all of the Unforgiven, has close ties to the Dark Angels. From 666-688.M38, the Master of the Chapter's 2nd Company led the Dark Angels Ravenwing, after three of its successive Grand Masters had been lost hunting The Fallen.[4b]
Other Notable Campaigns
- The Siege of Dominus Prime[7c]
- The Massacre at Darkmor — The Chapter lost several Companies in the Massacre[7c]
- The Battle of the Caliban System[8]
- Grymm's Landing[7c]
Organisation
The Chapter has two Companies that are dedicated to hunting the Fallen, which are modelled after the Dark Angels' Deathwing and Ravenwing formations. These are the Terminator-armoured Dreadwing and the mobile Raptorwing Companies.[9][7d]
Along with other Unforgiven chapters, the Angels of Vengeance share some recruiting world with other Chapters of their bloodline and the Dark Angels themselves. For example, the former homeworld of the now-destroyed Lions Sable, Nachtwald, has been given over to the Angels of Vengeance, and has been since primarily used by the Angels of Absolution.[7e]
Recruitment
One of the Angels of Vengeance's main recruiting worlds is the Death World Damnia, which was discovered while chasing the Fallen Angel Cypher.[5]
Heraldry
The Angels of Vengeance have retained the original black colour-scheme of the Dark Angels Legion.[1][2][10] The First Company wears black Terminator armour, and the robes of the Inner Circle are jet-black.[6][10]
The Chapter's symbol is a red-cowled white skull, superimposed on a pair of white wings.[1][10]
