Ai and Makoto are two of the protagonists of Digimon Tamers. Both siblings are the partners of Impmon but have little screen time compared to him.

Digimon Tamers[edit]
Both Ai and Makoto are the partners of Impmon. For some reason, they didn't receive a D-Ark at first. Due to their young age, they didn't understand the implications of having a Digimon partner. The siblings initially treated Impmon like a toy to play with, arguing and pulling him around like a doll. Impmon eventually got fed up with their immature behavior and left them. His experiences with them shaped his opinions on humans and Digimon who have Tamers.
After suffering the consequences of his deal with Caturamon and arriving back in the Real World, Impmon decided to locate his old Tamers. He found them at their grandmother's house in Bunkyo, where they apologized for their behavior. After Impmon left them, they realized how childish they had been. They promised Impmon that they won't treat him as a toy anymore but as a friend. After a tea party, Impmon saw Guilmon, Renamon, and Terriermon battling with the D-Reaper on television. He wanted to battle once more, but this time as an ally. Before he left, the twins wished for his safe return. Makoto gave Impmon his toy gun to help him defeat the D-Reaper, and Ai kissed him to bid him farewell. Their actions resulted in the birth of Beelzebumon: Blast Mode.
After Beelzebumon's attempt to save Katou Juri from the D-Reaper failed, Ai and Makoto tended to Impmon. Only then did they receive their D-Ark from a DigiGnome, which they shared as a sign that they now understood the meaning of partnership.
They later brought Impmon to the spot where the other Tamers met after the defeat of the D-Reaper. They saw him off once he devolved into Yarmon and went back to the Digital World with the other Digimon.
