KFF Marathon Challenge – 2024 Wrapup!
The KFF Marathon Challenge for 2024 has wrapped up as another FB year. As in past years, Paul KD7DT and Gerard F1BLL led the Hunter’s category while Chas NK8O took over leadership for the Activators. Congratulations to these guys for their outstanding performance and perseverance. Hats off to the remainder of the Top 5 and Top 10 Hunters and Activators. 2024 did have a sad moment with the passing of Graziano IW2NXI. He was consistently one of the top European hunters of KFF references. He is missed!
NEW Reference Activity Map
Planning an activation? Maybe you’re trying to figure out some references in your area to go activate, or better yet, looking for those All-Time New Ones (ATNOs)? The WWFF Reference Activity Map can help. This map is available at: amaterskeradio.cz/maps/.
What is it? This mapping software, provided by Michal, OK1SIM, uses the WWFF Directory to access references, their locations, and the amount of activation QSOs with last activation date. If you hover over each pin, you will see the number of activations and the last date of activation. Note – the hover may not work for portable devices. There are dropdowns for selecting the program (i.e., KFF) and whether the view will be for ALL, WITH QSO, and WITHOUT QSO. The map data is updated daily. Thank you Michal for your great work!
WWFF 2025 Marathon!
The World Wide Flora & Fauna (WWFF) program (https://wwff.co) is excited to launch a full-year Marathon for 2025. The purpose is to make as many QSOs as possible to/from WWFF nature reserves, activate as many of them globally as possible, and encourage radio amateurs to enjoy nature.
The Marathon rules have been published at https://wwff.co/marathon-rules/ and the automatically updating standings can be followed throughout the year at https://wwff.co/marathon-standings/. Among other things, the rules also list various awards and special events.
Participation is easy especially for those chasing WWFF activators from home, as there is no need to submit a log. Just turn on the radio and make QSOs!
As a central feature of the Marathon, its sponsor partners have very kindly agreed to provide a number of lottery prizes. Lottery tickets are accumulated simply by making QSOs, as specified further in the rules.
