USMA Memorial Day Message 2026
On Memorial Day, our nation pauses to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States. For 250 years, generations of patriots have defended the freedoms we cherish. This holiday carries deep significance, and it's the busiest time of year for those of us at the National Cemetery Administration.

Memorial Day events planned at 120+ national cemeteries
The Department of Veterans Affairs will host Memorial Day ceremonies this weekend at more than 120 VA national cemeteries across the country for 100,000 attendees. All events and parking are free of charge and open to the public, and will feature wreath-laying ceremonies, commemorative speeches, the playing of Taps and other patriotic events to honor America's interred service members. All 157 VA National Cemeteries and 35 soldiers' lots will be open throughout Memorial Day weekend, May 22-25.

Sixteen soldiers receive honorable burial at Omaha National Cemetery
On May 7, 2026, the remains of 16 soldiers received an honorable burial and were interred in a communal grave at Omaha National Cemetery. These soldiers were members of the Army's 149th Engineer Combat Battalion, 60th Medical Battalion and 500th Medical Collecting Company that were killed on D-Day of World War II (June 6, 1944) as they approached to storm the beach at Normandy.

VA, non-profits team up to honor Veterans during 'Memorial May'
The Department of Veterans Affairs' National Cemetery Administration is working throughout the month of May with non-profit organizations Carry The Load, Travis Manion Foundation and Victory for Veterans to pay homage to Veterans interred in VA's 157 national cemeteries through a series of events, volunteer opportunities and shared stories leading up to Memorial Day.

VA sets new record for customer satisfaction in memorial services
Based on feedback from Veterans and their families, NCA has been ranked first nationwide, for the eighth consecutive time, with a score of 98 across four categories: quality of process, information, customer service, and website satisfaction.

VA's National Cemetery Administration reimburses 20 state Veterans cemeteries throughout the nation and one establishment grant for Alaska's first state Veterans cemetery.
