When Chiron (the minor planet associated with healing and teaching) enters Taurus on June 19th, it activates our issues with creativity, pleasure, and the material world. If you’re carrying any baggage in your relationship with art, food, money, nature, or your own body, Chiron in Taurus is here to help you unpack it. Chiron retrogrades back into Aries on September 17th, offering us one last crash course in facing our fears and working with our tempers. But once it returns to Taurus on April 14th, 2027, it will dig its heels in the fixed earth sign and stay here until 2033/2034.
Chiron is named after a mythological centaur, known for his gifts in medicine, mentoring, and prophecy. Although he was skilled at healing others, he struggled to do the same for himself. He was born immortal, but after he was struck by a poisoned arrow, the pain was so unbearable that he chose to surrender his immortality. For the rest of his life, Chiron shared the wisdom he’d gathered from his experiences of suffering. Likewise, in astrology, Chiron can inflame our sore spots. Sometimes you may feel like Chiron is forcing you to revisit the same problems over and over again, but it’s for a good reason. Chiron shows us that we can always find new insights when we tend to our old wounds. So pay attention to what aches or stings.
Over the coming years, Chiron in Taurus will school us in how we connect to the world through our five senses. When do you feel fully present and comfortable and alive in your body, and when do you numb out? How can you take better care of your physical system? Are you handling your resources in a sustainable way? Because the sign of the bull is concerned with everything tangible in our lives, Chiron is sure to teach us a thing or two about environmentalism and economic justice during this transit. And because Taurus is ruled by Venus (the planet of love and beauty), we also may get some tough lessons on self-image, aesthetics, relationships, and reproductive rights.
Sound like a lot to deal with? Remember that Chiron doesn’t just let his wounds get the best of him; he flexes his skills and figures out solutions. And in Taurus, Chiron reminds us that simple, practical actions are more effective than big, abstract ideas. Focus on the routines that anchor your days. Spend time with the plants and animals in your life, make sure you’re hydrating and resting enough, and double down on the habits that support your wellbeing. The more rooted you are in both your body and your surroundings, the easier it will be to figure out your next steps — and share your findings with the rest of us. With the help of Chiron in Taurus, you’re beginning a whole new chapter in your mentor era.
Chiron is currently roaming the scorched plains of Aries, dabbing cooling balms onto our sunburns and astringent medicines to our tongues. Sometimes we have to break down before we break free or through, and Chiron is an old hand at such therapies.
The minor planet takes 49-51 years to circle the zodiac, and its orbit is wildly elliptical. That means that while it spends only a few years in some signs, it lingers for much longer in others. Chiron entered the sign of Aries in 2019 (after an initial dip during the spring and summer of 2018), and it will transit through this sign until 2026/2027.
That gives the Centaur nearly a decade to work its callused palms over the knots embedded in the Aries corner of your chart. Like any deep-tissue massage, the process could be uncomfortable at times — but that pain can be a wise old teacher, and we’re likely to feel some relief in the weeks after.
The following horoscopes invite you to acknowledge the bruises Chiron may currently be activating, and to lovingly alchemize these aches into wisdom, medicine, and healing.
