Beautification

CURRENT PROJECTS

Several years ago CLVN began to beautify the neighborhood.  We raised funds to purchase items to plant interior corners.  We plant several hundred bulbs in the fall for spring flowers.  In the spring, we plant the corners with rose bushes and various other flowers/plants for summer beauty.  In the fall, we plant mums as a reflection of the season.  Neighbors adopt the corners during the year for watering.  For these efforts, CLVN has been recognized by the City of Chicago.  Additionally, we also plant the cut outs at Oakdale and Halsted with our plantings and plant various materials at Agassiz School along with mulching around the school.

Various other projects include a yearly neighborhood clean up in April to pick up trash in the area as part of the City of Chicago Clean and Green.  We have also painted light poles and planted parkways. Other neighbors have volunteered their time to improve the landscape of Diversey by tending to the parkways.

In the past, we have worked with the local Merchant Associations to beautify Sheffield with the placement of large flower pots.  CLVN, along with donations from local businesses and the Alderman, also replaced all of the flower/tree boxes surrounding Harriet Tubman IB World School (formerly Agassiz) on George, Seminary and Wolfram.

We have worked hard to also improve the three parks in our area by getting new park equipment, painting existing equipment of planting in the park area.

Lastly, we have placed signs in the area to remind individuals to pick up after dogs to address any rat problems in the area.

PARKWAY IMPROVEMENTS
Parkways and sidewalks belong to the city. In both cases there are City Ordinances that require property owners to keep their sidewalks clear of snow and their parkways maintained. If you are interested in taking the extra step by creating a parkway garden, or adding a decorative fence the City of Chicago has established a landscape ordinance to guide you in your planning (Click Here for an overview).
