The Dominican Republic also has other advanced and specialized medical centers such as the Plaza de la Salud in Santo Domingo, the main capital. Although most people from the North Coast will visit the HOMS, in some cases an air ambulance flies patients to Santo Domingo if the case requires it, or to countries such as Canada and the United States if the patient feels they would rather use their own doctors in those countries for more complicated cases.
