So yesterday was a nice high point, to day was a bunch of frustration. I had noticed that the headlights were not matching, one halogen and one incandescent so I bought a set of those cheap LED lights with the ring around them. I was thinking they would be work able in the short run and the day runners and extra turn signal lights would be useful. Beginning in the morning I pulled out the old lights installed the new ones and made up some connecting wires for the day and turn lights. Wired it all up and nothing worked. Monkeyed around with it a bit and was able to get some of it to work...

DVV 350T Space Shuttle Enterprise Stansted Jun
Let me take you back to Sunday 5th June 1983, and no I don’t know what I was doing! I was just at the start of my third year of MG ownership with my 1978 MGB GT DVV 350T and was rebuilding my current 1964 MGB AER 155B which would be finished just 3 months later. BUT it was the day that the Space Shuttle Enterprise visited the UK on the way back to the USA from the Paris Air Show. The crowds were insane on that Sunday to watch the Shuttle arrive atop the Being 747 and I stayed away (I was probably rebuilding my MGB!), electing instead to try my hand at the inevitable traffic queues with a...

An endangered species
In England's leafy lanes and suburban backstreets, there was once a cheerful species of domesticated hound that is so rarely seen nowadays that it could even be extinct. Hardly a success as a guard dog, they were not noted for barking or ferocious behaviour should a thief threaten their owner’s property, but they were one of the cleanest animals you could ever own. Pleasant to the point of apathy, no member of the species was ever seen to disagree with anything. I refer, of course, to the much-loved Nodding Dog. A miniature species, the origins of the Nodding Dog are now veiled in the...

It has been 2 years since my last journal post and in those two years I've done no work on the car. It has been sitting in the garage patiently waiting for me to simultaneously get free time and ambition something very rare with two pre-teens in the house. But I'm happy to say that I have managed to do a restart on this project and after cleaning the garage last week I've managed to work two weeks in a row and can feel the excitement growing and some semblance of a feeling of accomplishment. I honestly couldn't remember where I was on the various systems that have to be completed to...

The engine compartment stripped
I have made a fair amount of progress in the last few weeks. The weather has been good, allowing me to start in on some primer. A scheduled trip to Hudson Bay (Churchill, M has been moved due to wildfires in the are and the likelihood of the train not running, so I have been able to get more done. I currently have about 90 hours into the project. Things that have been done recently include: Pull rear wiring harness Pull front wiring harness Remove hard lines (brake & fuel) from engine compartment and under car Pull fuel pump Sand, clean, and...

First entry, so the car has been on my to do list for a while. The rear wings along the joints were rotten so I removed them. Put her on a rear wheel dolly and took off the rear wheels. Then I starter poking and scraping.....Oh dear. That led to the sills so the fix list is getting longer.... I will keep scraping and wire brushing what is there and next step will be buy a cordless angle grinder.

I am totally shocked that in Idaho, there were so many options for Vanity Plates I would have expected to be completly unavailable. First Choice 72 MGB And to my amazement the .gov site said it was available? What? Impossible I thought. How could that be. I thought it was BS. But 2 weeks later, I got confirmations in the mail that the plate was mine! It will arrive in a 4-6 weeks, and I will post a pic. Crazy that these were available... I got one for my 2000 Porsche 911 Cabriolet too! "911 CAB" Never would have guessed that these were not already taken.

The last while has been spent building the bridge from the Miata subframe to the Triumph frame. The Triumph frame rails were widened and moved inboard then capped off. On top of the frame ends added gussets to the top and capped that off as well. Then started welding in the finished floor. Then took the time to do the fun part. Bolt in the control arms and wheels. Checking for clearance it looks quite good. may need to clearance the flange at the rear part of the wheel a bit. I had left them long when redoing the fender so no problems taking a bit off. It will depend on where the...

It's been about a month since I picked up this 1971 MGB that has been hidden away in a garage since 1995 based on last registration tag (California DMV confirms it has been listed as Non-Operational since 1997). The car has a 1966 engine in it (18GB-U-H) which is not a bad thing since its pre smog and has higher compression. I believe it might have been stored outside for some of the years early on as it has some floor pan rust and previous rust repairs in the lower quarter panels and it was repainted. The gentleman I bought it from has had since 1986 and said it was painted by the...

Running on the highway with the hood down creates a constant wind baffling to back of our heads. I have noted the commercial made retrofit baffles that mount behind the seats. While standing in my shop one day I conceived a self made design that might work. The inspiration was a pair of ball bearing three stage drawer guides I had and a pair of 1" brass cabinet hinges. The theory is to mount the drawer guides vertically on the bulkhead behind the seats. The hinges are bolted to the second stage sliding guide and a second bolt added to the hinge to flip down and engage a hole in the third...

Just as I thought I had managed to adapt my new Panasport wheels to my S2000 suspension, I developed clutch trouble. Hopefully, my master cylinder replacement journey will help some others in a similar spot: https://www.theoldmanandthemgb.com/2025/05/the-shakedown-continues.html
