When experts speak of endpoints, they are normally referring to employee Windows PCs – the largest attack surface in company environments. That is why perfect protection for these devices is essential. In its latest evaluation, the AV-TEST Institute tested 17 Windows solutions for endpoint PCs for corporate users. In addition to vital protection by the software, the performance on office PCs and susceptibility to false alarms were also tested. Over 20,000 malware samples and 900,000 innocuous files were used in the test. The findings demonstrate how well the security vendors perform and reliably secure the Windows 11 client PCs of employees.

Cyber attacks targeting Windows systems show no signs of slowing down: new malware variants crop up every second, posing a challenge to security solutions. To find out which products can hold up under this pressure, AV-TEST put 15 security packages for Windows 11 to the test. In the test, they were required to detect and fend off just under 20,000 malware programs – and at the same time properly treat some 900,000 harmless files without slowing down the system. The results clearly show which products for Windows 11 PCs are up to the task and which still need improvement.

Many of the cybercrime campaigns in 2024 and 2025 have shown that hackers are just as interested in Mac systems as they are in Windows computers. The AV-TEST laboratory has evaluated 16 protection products that offer both consumer and corporate users the best protection under MacOS Sequoia 15.3. These solutions needed to pass very extensive testing using hundreds of samples of malware that specifically target systems running MacOS. In addition to the important security check, the test lab also checked the extent to which the security solutions place a strain on a MacOS system and how often they trigger false alarms. The results of the tests show that there are many good protection products available for the Mac.

They are the leading vectors for attacks: ransomware and info stealers. If attacks are successful, what follows is extortion for ransom, the data ends up for sale on the Internet, or both. None of this happens if good protection software thwarts the attacks immediately. But is the software capable of doing so? The current Advanced Threat Protection – ATP – test examines 25 security packages for consumer users and corporate users in 10 scenarios in a live battle to fend off ransomware and data stealers. The Advanced Threat Protection test shows that many providers fulfill their protection promises. The test also reveals errors in some products that have consequences, however: the systems are encrypted and the data is stolen.
