Welcome!

Scientists at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) are investigating the structure and function of proteins - from individual molecules to whole organisms. Currently, there are 680 employees in nine research departments and 20 research groups, thus making the MPIB one of the largest institutes of the Max Planck Society. Approximately 350 scientists from 43 countries make the MPIB a diverse and internationally leading institute in the field of protein research. The MPIB in Munich-Martinsried is part of the local life-science-campus in close proximity to the MPI of Biological Intelligence, several faculties of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, the Innovation and Founding Center Biotechnology (IZB), as well as other institutions focused on natural sciences.

Scientists from nine departments and 20 research groups contribute to the latest findings in the fields of biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, biophysics and molecular science.
Become part of the Institute! On the Careers page you will find interesting information about doctoral programs, training, internships, job advertisements and other offers of the Institute.
Scientists of the Max Planck Institutes of Biochemistry and for Biological Intelligence, the Biocenter of the LMU and the BioMedical Center (BMC) present recent research topics.
