The first Cars, while far from being the most popular film (critically or commercially) in the Pixar oeuvre, it was the most successful, in terms of the almighty merchandising dollar. Year after year the property brings in billions of dollars, on everything from matchbox cars to footy pajamas (it’s also the lynchpin property in the $1 billion + overhaul of the troubled Disney California Adventure theme park, with the expansive Carsland opening next summer).
