Director Steve McQueen hasn’t made a narrative-driven film in many years, not since his stellar work on 2018’s “Widows.” The “12 Years a Slave” and “Shame” helmer released a little-seen documentary last year (“Occupied City”), but he returns to more dramatic interests in “Blitz,” which is a big-budget period piece examining the dangers of life in London during World War II.
