Slowly but surely, Marielle Heller has become one of the more interesting filmmakers working today. She found layers of character and pain in 2018’s “Can You Ever Forgive Me,” and she turned the world of Fred Rogers into a deeply felt study of human connection in the wonderful “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” She’s taking on quite a creative challenge in “Nightbitch,” which is an adaptation of a 2021 book by Rachel Yoder detailing the experience of a woman feeling the full squeeze of motherhood, finding ways to escape the grind that delve into strange fantasies.
